A team interested in Lee Kang-in (24) has increased again. The team led by José Mourinho (62), Fenerbahçe, is now on the radar.
The Turkish media outlet Hürriyet reported on the 18th (Korea Standard Time) that "Fenerbahçe is actively moving in the transfer market to end their trophy drought. They are preparing to bring in three players simultaneously from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), including Milan Škriniar and Marco Asensio, and Lee Kang-in has also been added to the list of potential transfers."
They added, "Lee Kang-in is a valuable asset not only in terms of technical ability but also from a marketing perspective. As negotiations with PSG have progressed positively, Fenerbahçe aims to bring these three players to Istanbul on the same flight to surprise their fans."
Lee Kang-in saw his playing opportunities significantly reduce in the second half of the 2024-2025 season. With side attacking resources like Déjan Lavić and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, and solid central options such as Vitinha, João Neves, and Fabián Ruiz, he was relegated to the bench. After clinching the Ligue 1 title early, Lee Kang-in was not included in the final match of the season. He also remained on the bench during the French Cup final and the UEFA Champions League final. Despite his absence, PSG achieved the treble.
PSG's contract with Lee Kang-in runs until June 2028. As a versatile player, his value as a backup resource remains high. Considering that PSG participates in multiple competitions, including the Champions League and the league, there is still potential for his utilization. Notably, he can operate not only as a second striker but also as a central midfielder, adding tactical flexibility.
However, the prevailing sentiment is that Lee Kang-in, completely sidelined from the starting lineup, must seek a team that needs him.
There are several European clubs interested in Lee Kang-in. Premier League's Manchester United and Serie A's Napoli and AS Roma are keeping a close watch on his situation.
However, local French media reported that PSG will not forcibly promote his transfer.
French media outlet L'Équipe analyzed the transfer market movements of PSG's attacking line on the 17th and mentioned Lee Kang-in's future. "Lee Kang-in has not yet requested to leave the team, and the club will not pressure him to transfer," indicating the possibility of him staying.
A day after this report, news emerged that Fenerbahçe is actively considering Lee Kang-in as a transfer target.
