Tottenham Hotspur is considering the sale of Richarlison (28), while the Brazilian prestigious club Palmeiras has officially entered the competition to acquire him.
The British media outlet 'The Standard' reported on the 16th (Korean time) that 'Richarlison is in negotiations with Palmeiras. The club, which secured a cash prize from the Club World Cup, wishes to make an acquisition in the summer transfer market.'
Palmeiras has now entered direct transfer negotiations with Tottenham. The Brazilian media outlet 'Terra' reported that 'the two clubs have begun talks this week, led by Leila Pereira, president of Palmeiras.' President Pereira has also directly contacted Richarlison to gauge his willingness to transfer.
According to Brazilian journalist Mateus Filipe, President Pereira has been consistently communicating with Richarlison for the past two weeks to push for the acquisition.
As the club's leadership has become directly involved, there is an analysis that Palmeiras' determination is resolute.
If Richarlison accepts Palmeiras' offer, he will return to the Brazilian stage after about eight years.
He started his professional career at America Mineiro in Brazil and subsequently moved to Fluminense before advancing to the European stage.
Tottenham is demanding a transfer fee of £55 million (about 102.5 billion won) for Richarlison. This amount is slightly lower than the £60 million (about 111.8 billion won) paid when he was acquired from Everton in 2022.
'The Standard' reported that 'Palmeiras can meet Tottenham's demand. This is because they secured a cash prize of about £29.1 million (about 54.2 billion won) for reaching the quarterfinals of the Club World Cup (losing 1-2 to Chelsea).'
Palmeiras attempted to loan Richarlison earlier this year but failed. However, this time they have switched to a transfer approach. They are also planning to make Richarlison the highest-paid player in the history of South American football.
Currently, Palmeiras sits in fifth place in Brazil's first division. The point difference with leader Flamengo is only five points, making a comeback for the championship possible.
Richarlison scored 10 goals and had 5 assists for Everton in the 2021-2022 season, helping prevent the team from relegation. Despite this performance, he transferred to Tottenham but did not meet expectations. In his first season, he only scored one goal in the league and struggled to maintain consistent play due to injuries.
Last season, he seemed to bounce back by scoring 11 league goals, but Richarlison was again plagued by injuries. This season, he has had only four starting appearances in the Premier League. He has played 500 minutes across 15 matches, scoring 4 goals and providing 1 assist. Although he contributed to winning the Europa League towards the end of the season, his personal performance left much to be desired.
Tottenham is considering the sale of Richarlison. With two years remaining on his contract, this summer is analyzed to be the last optimal time for a sale.
The attacking resources at Tottenham to replace him are abundant.
Tottenham has already acquired Mohammed Kudus and has finalized a contract with Matheus Tell. Negotiations with Morgan Gibbs-White are nearing completion, and they are also showing interest in Yoane Wissa from Brentford.
Richarlison is also in a situation where he needs to transfer. Playing time is important for his participation in the 2026 North America World Cup. A return to Brazil could be a turning point for him to soar again.
Meanwhile, Richarlison is also attracting interest from a Saudi Arabian club and Turkey's Galatasaray. However, there have been no official offers yet.
