The Korea Lacrosse Association (KLA) achieved a significant milestone by incorporating lacrosse into the regular curriculum of universities through a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Hanyang University ERICA Campus.
On the 8th, KLA and Hanyang University signed an agreement with the Department of Sports Science of the College of Physical Education at Hanyang University ERICA Campus, establishing an educational cooperation system for expanding the base of lacrosse and nurturing professional talent.
This agreement is evaluated as a significant turning point in the history of lacrosse in Korea.
Based on this agreement, Hanyang University will officially offer two general education courses on lacrosse from the second semester of the 2025 academic year. Furthermore, starting from the first semester of the 2026 academic year, lacrosse will be included as a practical subject in the Department of Sports Science to provide deeper educational opportunities.
In line with this, the Korea Lacrosse Association plans to actively collaborate by dispatching professional instructors and comprehensively supporting equipment necessary for class operations, ensuring that students can learn and experience lacrosse in a stable environment.
The two institutions will focus their efforts not just on the development of educational programs, but also on nurturing talent that will be responsible for the future of lacrosse in South Korea. In particular, they aim to cultivate players with international competitiveness through training and research cooperation based on sports science, laying the foundation for discovering talent that will lead the 2028 LA Olympics. Moreover, they will focus on creating an environment that can realize the direction of modern sports education, where 'student-athletes' are becoming increasingly important. Through this, they gathered their wish for the balanced nurturing of talent that can lead the future sports industry.
Starting with this agreement, the Korea Lacrosse Association and Hanyang University plan to establish an advanced lacrosse system through continuous exchanges.
KLA noted, "This agreement is a very significant first step in the incorporation of lacrosse into the regular curriculum of universities," and expressed ambitions to actively create opportunities for students to engage with lacrosse more easily and closely by collaborating with more educational institutions in the future.
