'Transfer speculation' Son Heung-min (33, Tottenham) is likely to start in the first match under Coach Frank.
Tottenham will face Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in the UEFA Super Cup on the 14th of next month at the Stadio Friuli in Udine, Italy.
British media outlet Football London reported, "Son's future is still uncertain, but for now, the captain Son Heung-min, who has fully recovered from injury, is expected to start on the left wing."
Son Heung-min maintained his role as the team's captain despite frequent injuries and inconsistent performances last season. While he continues to attract interest from Saudi Arabian clubs, local forecasts suggest there is a strong possibility he will play as a key player in Coach Frank's first official match.
Returning from vacation, Son Heung-min joined team training on the 15th. Ahead of the first preseason match against Reading on the 19th, he played a central role in the training.
The training session garnered significant attention due to his return from transfer speculation.
The contract period between Tottenham and Son Heung-min is until the summer of 2026, leaving exactly one year.
This summer, Tottenham is expected to be with Son Heung-min at least until early August due to their Asian tour schedule. Tottenham plans to visit Hong Kong and Korea for preseason matches.
Coach Frank is set to hold his first official press conference this Friday. There is a strong possibility that more concrete details regarding Son Heung-min's future will emerge during this event.
Football London predicts Son Heung-min will start against Reading, mentioning that soon-to-be-signed attacking resources such as Brennan Johnson and Gibbs White (Nottingham Forest) will join him in the second line of attack. Johnson was the team's top scorer last season.
Coach Frank has been someone who wanted to sign Johnson since his time at Brentford. Football London explained, "Coach Frank will highly evaluate Johnson's defensive contribution and rapid transition speed."
Furthermore, "Dominic Solanke is responsible for the front line, while Rodrigo Bentancur and Lucas Bergvall are likely to form the midfield combination. The defensive line is expected to consist of Pedro Porro, Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, and Destiny Udogie. The goal will likely be protected by Italian goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario," it reported.
PSG recently finished their schedule in the Club World Cup in the U.S. and is entering a three-week break. Training is expected to resume just before the Super Cup.
Football London emphasized, "To secure a victory against PSG, the Champions League-winning and Club World Cup-challenging team, Tottenham must deploy their best lineup."
