The National League All-Stars achieved their 45th All-Star Game victory.
The National League All-Stars defeated the American League All-Stars in a fierce battle that went to a home run swing-off during the 2025 Major League All-Star Game held at Truist Park in Atlanta, Georgia, on the 16th (Korea time). While the National League All-Stars avenged last year's defeat, the all-time record remains 48 wins, 2 draws, and 45 losses, with the American League All-Stars still leading.
The National League All-Stars set their starting lineup with Shohei Ohtani (Dodgers, designated hitter), Ronald Acuña Jr. (Atlanta, left fielder), Ketel Marte (Arizona, second baseman), Freddie Freeman (Dodgers, first baseman), Manny Machado (San Diego, third baseman), Will Smith (Dodgers, catcher), Kyle Tucker (Cubs, right fielder), Francisco Lindor (Mets, shortstop), and Pete Crow-Armstrong (Cubs, center fielder). Pete Alonso (Mets) and Corbin Carroll (Arizona) hit home runs, while Brendan Donovan (St. Louis) recorded multi-hits.
Starting pitcher Paul Skins (Pittsburgh) delivered a strong performance with 2 strikeouts and no runs in 1 inning. The bullpen, consisting of Clayton Kershaw (Dodgers, ⅔ inning, no runs), Jason Adam (San Diego, ⅓ inning, no runs), Logan Webb (San Francisco, 1 inning, no runs), David Peterson (Mets, 1 inning, no runs), Mackenzie Gore (Washington Nationals, 1 inning, no runs), Andrew Abbott (Cincinnati, 1 inning, no runs), Adrian Morejon (San Diego, 0 innings, 2 earned runs), Randy Rodriguez (San Francisco, ⅔ inning, 2 earned runs), Trevor Megill (Milwaukee, ⅓ inning, no runs), Jacob Misiorowski (Milwaukee, 1 inning, no runs), Robert Suarez (San Diego, ⅓ inning, 1 earned run), and Edwin Diaz (Mets, ⅔ inning, no runs) could not secure the team's victory, but the hitters brought home the win after the home run swing-off.
The American League All-Stars constructed their starting lineup with Gleyber Torres (Detroit, second baseman), Riley Greene (Detroit, left fielder), Aaron Judge (Yankees, right fielder), Cal Raleigh (Seattle, catcher), Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (Toronto, first baseman), Ryan O'Hearn (Baltimore, designated hitter), Junior Caminero (Tampa Bay, third baseman), Javier Baez (Detroit, center fielder), and Jacob Wilson (Athletics, shortstop). Brent Rooker (Athletics) hit two home runs in the home run swing-off but the team suffered defeat.
Starting pitcher Tarik Skubal (Detroit) recorded a loss with 2 earned runs on 3 hits and 2 strikeouts in 1 inning. The bullpen that followed, consisting of Carlos Rodon (Yankees, 1 inning, no runs), Bryan Woo (Seattle, 1 inning, no runs), Joe Ryan (Minnesota, 1 inning, no runs), Drew Rasmussen (Tampa Bay, 1 inning, no runs), Kris Bubic (Kansas City, ⅓ inning, 3 earned runs), Casey Mize (Detroit, ⅔ inning, 1 earned run), Carlos Estevez (Kansas City, 1 inning, no runs), Shane Smith (White Sox, ⅓ inning, no runs), and Andres Munoz (Seattle, ⅔ inning, no runs) pitched well but could not prevent the team's defeat.
In the bottom of the first inning, leadoff hitters Ohtani and Acuña Jr. of the National League All-Stars both produced hits. Marte brought in the first runs for the team with a 2-run double. In the second inning with two outs, Crow-Armstrong hit a double, but Ohtani was caught out on a ground ball to first base.
In the top of the third inning, American League All-Star leadoff hitter Caminero produced a hit. Following Baez's groundout, a chance arose with one out and runners on second base, but both Wilson and Torres made outs. In the fourth inning with two outs, Raleigh and Guerrero Jr. both hit consecutive singles, but O'Hearn grounded out to first base.
The game, which had been quiet, surged in the bottom of the sixth. Leadoff hitter Fernando Tatis Jr. (San Diego) reached second base via a walk and a stolen base, and after Donovan's hit, Alonso launched a decisive 3-run home run. Eugenio Suarez (Arizona) and Hunter Goodman (Colorado) made outs, but Carroll hit another solo home run.
The American League All-Stars quickly mounted a counterattack. In the top of the seventh, Alejandro Kirk (Toronto) and Jonathan Aranda (Tampa Bay) reached base with hits and walks, respectively, and pinch hitter Brent Rooker (Athletics) launched a 3-run home run. Following that, Maikel Garcia (Kansas City) drew a walk, and Byron Buxton (Minnesota) was caught out on a line drive to left field, but due to a catcher's throwing error on a stolen base, Garcia advanced to third base, and Bobby Witt Jr. (Kansas City) brought a run home with a groundout, closing the gap to 4-6.
In the last chance for the ninth inning, the American League All-Stars saw Buxton hit a double, and Witt Jr.'s 1-run double kept the chase alive. Jazz Chisholm Jr.'s well-placed hit was snagged by first baseman Matt Olson (Atlanta) in a spectacular defensive play, but Steven Kwan (Cleveland) created a 1-run infield hit to bring the game back to even.
With neither team able to decide the outcome by the end of the ninth, the two teams opted for a home run swing-off to determine the winner, marking the first time in All-Star Game history that a home run swing-off was used. Each league had 3 batters swing 3 times, and the league that hit the most home runs would take home the victory. The American League featured Rooker, Randy Arozarena (Seattle), and Aranda, while the National League had Kyle Stowers (Miami), Kyle Schwarber (Philadelphia), and Alonso at the plate as representatives of the league.
In the home run swing-off, the National League (Stowers 1, Schwarber 3) defeated the American League (Rooker 2, Arozarena 1, Aranda 0) to secure victory.
