The global youth basketball festival 'Super Cup' will be held.
The Jeongseon County Sports Council (Chairman Kang Shin-yeol) and KXO (Korea 3x3 Basketball Federation) will host the 'NH Nonghyup Bank 2025 Jeongseon Global Youth Basketball Super Cup (hereafter Super Cup)' from the 18th to the 20th in Jeongseon County, Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province. This tournament will be held across 8 divisions, including U9, U10, U11, U12, U13, U15, U18, and girls' elementary school, with 70 teams and over 1,200 athletes participating from Korea, Japan, Thailand, continuing the reputation of being the largest international youth basketball tournament in the country.
The Super Cup, which began in 2024, marks its 4th iteration this year. Each summer and winter break, the international youth basketball tournament Super Cup has seen youth basketball aspirants from various countries, including the United States, China, Japan, Singapore, Taiwan, the Philippines, and Thailand, come to Korea to compete against local youth basketball players.
The 4th Super Cup will be held in Jeongseon County for the first time in history. Known for its pleasant climate even in the height of summer and widely recognized as a premier tourist destination, Jeongseon County (County Mayor Choi Seung-jun) has spared no effort in supporting the hosting of this Super Cup, providing excellent gymnasiums and accommodations for domestic and international teams, thus heightening expectations for the event.
Just like the previous Super Cups, fierce competition among the youth basketball aspirants is also anticipated in this Super Cup.
This Super Cup, which has newly established a girls' elementary division for the first time in history, will see players from the Iwakura Shining Star Club in Tottori Prefecture, Japan, participate. In response, the Wonju Dankwan Elementary and Chuncheon Mancheon Elementary, elite basketball teams in Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province, have also decided to participate in the Super Cup, setting the stage for a mini Korea-Japan showdown.
In January, the Thai club YBL, which showcased impressive performances at the 3rd Super Cup, is returning to Korea once again. Thai YBL is a club actively involved in youth basketball activities within Thailand, hosting foreign coaches and large-scale youth basketball leagues, and is determined to challenge again for the championship title they missed last year.
In contrast, over 60 top youth basketball teams from Korea, including Bundang Samsung, Gangnam SK, Dongdaemun Tomo, Ulsan Mobiis, Busan The Grist, Wonju YKK, and Asan Woori Bank, are set to participate, suggesting that this Super Cup will feature competitive dynamics comparable to previous tournaments.
KXO Chairman Park Geon-yeon noted, "It is an honor that the Super Cup has already reached its 4th session. As this Super Cup will be held for the first time in Jeongseon County, a representative tourist site in Korea, we will do our best to ensure it is a high-level tournament. I would like to express my gratitude to Jeongseon County, the Jeongseon County Council, the Jeongseon County Sports Council, and the Jeongseon County Basketball Association for their significant support in hosting this event."
Major matches of the NH Nonghyup Bank 2025 Jeongseon Global Youth Basketball Super Cup, which will help alleviate the summer heat, will be broadcast on KBSN Sports, and all matches will be livestreamed on YouTube.
