OK Eutmán Rugby Team takes initiative once again for promising young rugby players in Korea.
OK Financial Group announced that the OK Eutmán Rugby Team (hereinafter referred to as Eutmán Rugby Team, team owner Choi Yoon) will hold the 'OK Eutmán Rugby Academy (hereinafter Rugby Academy)' for middle school players nationwide from August 29 to 31.
This Rugby Academy, conducted at Hana Global Campus located in Seo-gu, Incheon, is open for any middle school rugby player in the country to apply. Applications will be accepted until the 18th, and school representatives and coaches wishing to participate should fill out an application form listing the school name, number of participants, and a roster of participants and submit it to the email address posted on the official SNS of the Eutmán Rugby Team.
This Rugby Academy will be led by head coach Oh Young-gil and the coaching staff of the Eutmán Rugby Team, along with rugby players who are active in national and international competitions and are at the forefront of the development of Korean rugby, who will conduct the program for the participating players.
The Rugby Academy was initiated from the heart of chairman Choi Yoon, who wishes to instill true rugby spirit in the dreamers who will lead the future of Korean rugby and to establish a proper rugby culture where the spirit of rugby lives on beyond the passion shown on the field.
To spread the value of rugby to more student athletes, the academy aims to introduce how attractive the sport is, showcasing the rich history and advantages of rugby to young players, and instilling the essential mindset required for players to grow, such as teamwork and cooperation epitomized by the 'No-side spirit,' which represents the important values of rugby.
The program will prioritize technical aspects that are essential for player growth. The first day of the academy will focus on fundamental training, such as passing and kicking, as well as educating participants on the rules of rugby that every player must accurately know. Following practical defense and attack training, a mini rugby game will be organized on the last day of the academy, allowing players to utilize what they have learned. Additionally, injury prevention education for conditioning will be included.
Despite being a sport completed with the 'No-side spirit' that emphasizes respect for the opponent with handshakes after the game, rugby has been overshadowed by non-mainstream sports, causing its unique educational value to go unnoticed. This Rugby Academy is also a part of the Eutmán Rugby Team's effort to expand the base of rugby by showing action rather than merely talking.
To this end, various sessions have been arranged to convey the three essential rugby spirits of sacrifice, patience, and cooperation, along with the 'No-side spirit.' The academy plans to screen the documentary film '600,000 Tries,' which tells the story of the Osaka Korean High School Rugby Club, a school for Koreans in Japan, in conjunction with programs that share the sportsmanship and life advice that former rugby players, including head coach Oh Young-gil, who is also the actual protagonist of '600,000 Tries,' should possess.
Choi Yoon, chairman of OK Financial Group (also the owner of OK Eutmán Rugby Team), said, 'I planned this Rugby Academy for the dreamers of rugby who are running for the future of Korean rugby' and added, 'I hope the players participating in the Rugby Academy enjoy rugby and learn a lot. Although the time is short, I expect the moments spent at the Rugby Academy will serve as a foundation for them to become more brilliant players in the future.'
Choi continued, 'Players always show their passion for rugby, but support and systems for nurturing young players dreaming of rugby are still lacking. Eutmán Rugby Team has decided to take the initiative to show the dreamers of rugby what 'real rugby' is' and emphasized, 'We sincerely prepared this to propagate rugby that emphasizes growth rather than competition, learning by enjoying and hitting rather than learning through punishment, so I ask for a lot of interest and support from young rugby dreamers who will join us.'
