On the 15th, Daejeon Jung-gu (Mayor Kim Je-seon) presented honorary citizenship certificates and honorary plaques to four members, including foreign pitchers Ryan Weiss and Cody Ponce of the Hanwha Eagles, at Daejeon Hanwha Life Eagles Park and the Jung-gu Office's community lounge.
The honorary citizenship awards were presented to honor those who contributed to the development of Jung-gu and the local community, and to those expected to play a positive role in Jung-gu in the future.
The four selected as the first honorary citizens of Jung-gu are Ryan Weiss and Cody Ponce, foreign pitchers for the Hanwha Eagles, along with their spouses. They have actively engaged through various channels, including YouTube, not only in games but also based on their deep interest and affection for Jung-gu. In particular, they have been actively communicating with the local community by running a running club (Home Run Club) with local residents in the Daejong-ro area near the stadium.
Hailey Weiss and Emma Ponce, who were selected as honorary citizens, said, “It is a great honor to become honorary citizens of Jung-gu,” and “We sincerely thank the residents of Jung-gu for their warm hospitality, and we will cherish that sentiment.”
Mayor Kim Je-seon of Jung-gu noted, “I am very pleased to welcome you four as the first honorary citizens of our district,” adding, “I hope the four selected honorary citizens will join the pleasant changes that Jung-gu will bring in the future.”
