The season for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has ended, and Lee Kang-in (24, PSG)'s PSG life is effectively over.
PSG concluded their season schedule with a 0-3 defeat against Chelsea in the final of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup on the 13th (Korean time). Despite achieving the historic milestone of winning the Champions League for the first time, some players within the club were categorized for sale this summer.
French outlet 'foot01' reported on the 14th, "Lee Kang-in and Luka Hernandez have been completely excluded from head coach Luis Enrique's plans. PSG plans to sell them this summer."
In fact, the two players distanced themselves from coach Luis Enrique's plans as the season progressed, and they were not able to start as main players in the Club World Cup. In particular, since the start of 2025, PSG has continued to operate a first-team-centric squad without rotation, exposing the limitations of backup resources. Although Gonzalo Hamus and Zaire-Emery also fell short of expectations, it is reported that Lee Kang-in and Luka Hernandez received the judgment that "giving them further opportunities would be difficult."
According to reports, PSG is actively pushing for the transfer of the two players. However, they maintain the stance that "they will not let the players go for a pittance." PSG plans to numerically compensate for each player leaving in the summer transfer market, requiring funds accordingly.
The outlet noted, "Several clubs are already showing interest in Lee Kang-in. SSC Napoli and Manchester United are representative, both seeking to strengthen their creative midfielders. Additionally, some clubs in Italy and Spain are reportedly exploring the acquisition of Lee Kang-in."
Lee Kang-in transferred to PSG from RCD Mallorca in the summer of 2023 and has performed for two seasons, but he remained with limited opportunities under Luis Enrique's system. Luka Hernandez is being linked to a more 'exotic destination.' The outlet reported, "The most likely option is the Saudi Arabian league, where the possibility of reuniting with his younger brother Theo Hernandez, who recently transferred to Al Hilal, has been raised."
Luka is also considering options for staying in Europe, but no specific names of European clubs have been disclosed yet.
Luka, a French national team defender who has played for Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid, is targeted by PSG to recoup at least minimal revenue from his transfer fee. Until the beginning of the season, head coach Luis Enrique had high expectations for both players, but as time progressed, he felt limitations in their performance and ultimately concluded that they should be categorized for transfer.
Both Lee Kang-in and Luka's time in Paris is coming to an end.
