Major League Baseball (MLB) home run leader Cal Raleigh of the Seattle Mariners won the All-Star Home Run Derby, becoming the first catcher to do so.
Raleigh won by hitting 18 home runs in the finals of the 2025 Major League All-Star Home Run Derby held at Truist Park in Atlanta, Georgia, on the 15th (Korea time), defeating Junior Caminero of the Tampa Bay Rays, who hit 14.
Raleigh is the first catcher to win the Major League All-Star Home Run Derby in history. Additionally, he is the first Seattle player to win the home run derby in 26 years since Ken Griffey Jr. in 1999. The prize money is $1 million (about 1.38 billion won).
This season, Raleigh leads the home run institutional sector with 38 home runs, surpassing Aaron Judge (35 home runs, New York Yankees) and Shohei Ohtani (32 home runs, Los Angeles Dodgers).
Raleigh made the victory in the home run derby a family affair. His father, Todd Raleigh, pitched the balls, while his younger brother, Todd Jr. Raleigh, donned the catcher's mask to receive them.
He said, "Being the league's home run leader doesn't guarantee a home run derby victory. I'm also surprised by this win, and I'm even happier because I did it with my family."
The All-Star Home Run Derby, featuring eight participants, determines its champion by allowing the four players with the most home runs in the first round to advance to the second round in a tournament format.
