Tottenham Hotspur has emerged as a big player in the transfer market. Within a month of the summer transfer window opening, the club has spent 343.3 billion won, making it the second-largest expenditure among clubs globally.
The soccer content media "Score 90" revealed the summer transfer spending rankings of Premier League clubs on social media accounts on the 12th (Korea time).
"Score 90" stated that "some transfers that are in the pre-announcement stage are included in this ranking," and “Morgan Gibbs-White (Nottingham Forest → Tottenham), Alvaro Carreiras (Benfica → Real Madrid), and Noni Madueke (Arsenal → Chelsea) are expected to have their transfers confirmed soon.
Currently, the highest expenditure in the ongoing transfer market is Chelsea.
Chelsea, which has continued to make large investments every transfer market under owner Todd Boehly, did not hold back this summer either. Chelsea acquired Jaime Gittens and Joao Pedro for 64 million euros (103.1 billion won) each, and invested 36 million euros (58 billion won) in Liam Delap. Additionally, they spent 34 million euros (54.8 billion won) on Esteban, 22 million euros (35.5 billion won) on Dario Isugo, 14 million euros (22.6 billion won) on Mamadou Sarr, and 10 million euros (16.1 billion won) on Kendry Paez, totaling 244 million euros (399.3 billion won).
Surprisingly, Tottenham ranked second.
Tottenham acquired six new players this summer, investing 213 million euros (343.3 billion won). This amount ties them for second place alongside Liverpool, who signed Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez, Jeremy Frimpong, and Armin Pech.
Tottenham recorded a higher rank than Real Madrid, which spent 168 million euros (270.8 billion won).
Tottenham is making its presence felt in the market with aggressive acquisitions. They have fully acquired Matthis Tell and Kevin Danso, who were previously on loan, for 35 million euros (56.4 billion won) and 25 million euros (40.3 billion won), respectively. They are also securing future resources, bringing in Japanese center-back Kotaro Takai, born in 2004, and Croatian defender Luka Buskovic, born in 2007, for 12 million euros (19.3 billion won) and 6 million euros (9.7 billion won), respectively. The acquisitions of these two players are assessed as forward-looking investments.
Large contracts have continued as well. Tottenham spent 65 million euros (104.8 billion won) to acquire attacking midfielder Mohammed Kudus from West Ham. Additionally, it is reported that they activated the buyout clause of 70 million euros (112.8 billion won) for Morgan Gibbs-White of Nottingham. An official announcement is expected soon.
