Son Heung-min's future will soon be determined.
Football London reported that "Son Heung-min's departure was delayed due to a pre-arranged family matter. Son is expected to return to London on the 12th to join Tottenham. With speculation about Son's departure this summer, various clubs worldwide are showing interest."
Tottenham is contemplating Son's role with the recent appointment of manager Thomas Frank. They are considering whether to continue using Son as a key player next season or to bench him or transfer him.
Football London explained that "Son Heung-min is said to have decided to stay at Tottenham for one more year to pursue a Champions League appearance. He plans to meet with manager Frank after returning to discuss his future."
Son Heung-min's contract runs until 2026. If Son plays for another year at Tottenham, he will become a free agent, which means Tottenham would receive no transfer fee.
From Tottenham's perspective, transferring Son immediately would yield the highest financial return. If Tottenham uses Son for another year, they must extend his contract until 2027 to secure a transfer fee. Tottenham must make a decision one way or another.
Saudi Arabia still strongly desires Son Heung-min. The UK’s TalkSport reported that "Saudi Pro League clubs Al Ahli, Al Nassr, and Al Qadisiyah are competing to acquire Son Heung-min this summer. The three clubs are prepared to pay €40 million (about 63.3 billion won) for his transfer."
If Son transfers, a transfer fee of £50-60 million (about 94.5-112.2 billion won) was deemed appropriate by 34% of respondents. £50 million (about 94.5 billion won) or less was second with 33%. Ultimately, that means 67% consider the appropriate valuation for Son to be under £60 million (about 112.2 billion won).
Tottenham can secure the highest transfer fee if Son moves to Saudi Arabia. This would be the biggest profit for Tottenham. However, it is unlikely for Son, who values honor, to make a move solely for money.
In addition to Saudi Arabia, manager José Mourinho's prestigious Turkish club Fenerbahçe is interested in Son Heung-min.
