Son Heung-min (33, Tottenham)'s transfer rumors to Saudi Arabia have resurfaced, drawing attention to his future.
The Tottenham specialized media outlet 'Tottenham News' reported on the 8th (Korean time) that "Son Heung-min is preparing to leave North London. Saudi clubs are actively pursuing his signing. If the transfer is successful, a move to Saudi Arabia this summer is likely."
The British outlet 'Football London' also reported, "The likelihood of Son Heung-min leaving Tottenham is greater than ever," reflecting the local atmosphere. After last month's international match, Son Heung-min remarked, "I am also curious about (the future). Let's see what happens," not denying the transfer rumors. This contrasts with his firm denial of a move to Saudi Arabia two years ago.
Tottenham has stated that they will respect Son Heung-min's decision.
Al Ahli, Al Nassr, and Al Qadisiyah are reported to have offered Son Heung-min a transfer fee of 40 million euros and a total salary of 90 million euros over three years. The interest from Saudi clubs continues steadily. 'Tottenham News' stated, "Since Son Heung-min rejected the proposal from Los Angeles (LA) FC, the possibility of moving to Saudi Arabia has increased. The interest from the Saudi side has not cooled down."
There was also a scenario involving a move to the United States. LAFC wanted Son Heung-min as a replacement for Olivier Giroud. However, it is reported that Son Heung-min did not accept LAFC's proposal.
'The Mirror' reported, "Son Heung-min is open to a transfer but will not rush it. The LAFC proposal will not be accepted." 'The Sun' also noted, "A move to the U.S. is currently unlikely."
Son Heung-min's situation could create a butterfly effect. Mikey Moore, a forward born in 2007 known as 'the second Son Heung-min,' was likely to leave the team due to a lack of playing opportunities, but the situation could change if Son Heung-min transfers.
Tottenham will need to play more than 50 matches next season, including the UEFA Champions League (UCL). Analysis suggests that if Son Heung-min leaves the team, opportunities may arise for Moore. 'Tottenham News' predicts that "Fans may be disappointed by Son Heung-min's transfer, but at the same time, it could induce Moore's retention, who has a possibility of being loaned out."
Last season, Son Heung-min recorded 11 goals and 11 assists in 46 official matches. He contributed to winning the UEFA Europa League but only scored 7 goals in the league, ending his streak of double-digit goals for eight consecutive seasons. He underperformed due to injuries and fatigue.
Some fans have responded that "now is the time to part beautifully." They believe it is the right moment to say goodbye since he captained the team and lifted his first major trophy.
Son Heung-min's final decision is likely to be made after meetings with head coach Thomas Frank. Depending on whether Coach Frank utilizes him as a starter or as a rotational option, Son Heung-min's choice could change.
However, due to the preseason Asia tour schedule, it seems he will remain with Tottenham at least until early August.
