Jamal Musiala (22, Bayern Munich) broke his silence. After collapsing due to an injury during the Club World Cup match, he started rehabilitation following surgery and reached out to Gianluigi Donnarumma (Paris Saint-Germain).
On the 9th (Korea time), Musiala shared a video message in English on his personal social media. In the video, despite a gaunt expression, he calmly expressed his gratitude to fans and stated his clear position on the controversy.
Musiala said, "I really appreciate your support. It has been a great help. I was happy to see the football community come together during this time. That is truly special."
Musiala sustained severe injuries, dislocating his left ankle and fracturing his fibula, after a collision with Donnarumma during the match against Paris Saint-Germain at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup held last week. He underwent surgery at a hospital in Murnau, near Munich, Germany, and is currently recovering steadily.
Musiala provided an update, saying, "The surgery went well, and I am receiving meticulous care from the medical staff."
Above all, his response to the blame directed at Donnarumma attracted significant attention. Some fans accused Donnarumma's aggressive play during the collision as the cause. However, Musiala himself embraced Donnarumma.
Musiala stated, "It’s nobody's fault. Situations like this can happen during a match." He extinguished the sparks of controversy himself and did not blame his opponent.
Lastly, Musiala expressed his determination regarding rehabilitation. He said, "The time ahead will be spent solidifying myself again and regaining positive energy. I look forward to meeting you all again soon."
According to Bayern Munich, Musiala has already started rehabilitation training, but it is expected that he will be 'absent for several months.' Bayern is reportedly seeking alternative resources in the summer transfer market to prepare for the long-term absence of their key midfielder.
Meanwhile, Musiala's message has served to remind us all, beyond the conflicts inside and outside the stadium, of what sportsmanship and human dignity really mean.
