Lotte Giants foreign pitcher Gamboa has been selected as the MVP for June in the 2025 Shinhan SOL Bank KBO League. For Lotte, this is the first monthly MVP in over two years since Na Gyun-an in April 2023, and it is the second award for a foreign pitcher who joined mid-season since KT Cueva in August 2023 (according to the regularization of the KBO League monthly MVP award since the 2010 season).
Gamboa received a total of 55.09 points, with 30 votes (85.7%) from the media out of 35 votes and 105,152 votes (24.5%) from fans out of 429,664 votes, surpassing KIA Jeong Sang-hyun, who recorded 26.05 points with 1 vote from the media and 211,595 fan votes.
Gamboa joined Lotte in May and quickly adapted to the KBO League, becoming the winning pitcher in his first start in June against Kiwoom, throwing 7 innings without conceding a run. He continued his success by winning all four games as a starter in June, achieving an unblemished record of 5 wins.
Additionally, during 31 1/3 innings pitched, he recorded only 6 earned runs, achieving an earned run average of 1.72, placing first in the monthly earned run average category. He also ranked second in the innings pitched category and recorded quality starts (6 innings or more with 3 or fewer earned runs) in four of his five starts.
In his first start in July, Gamboa became the winning pitcher again, throwing 6 2/3 innings without conceding a run and achieving his sixth consecutive win as a starter, contributing to the team's fierce ranking battle.
Gamboa, who was selected as the June MVP, is set to receive a prize of 3 million won and a trophy.
