Professional baseball Kiwoom Heroes foreign pitcher Kenny Rosenberg (30) is in a situation where his return this season is uncertain.
Kiwoom manager Hong Won-ki noted in an interview before the match against Hanwha Eagles at the '2025 Shinhan Bank SOL Bank KBO League' held at Seoul's Gocheok Sky Dome on the 6th, 'It may be difficult for Rosenberg to return this season.'
Rosenberg is a left-handed foreign pitcher who recorded 4 wins, 4 losses, and an earned run average of 3.23 in 13 games (75⅓ innings) this season. He had been showing good performance this year but has not appeared in a game since the match against LG on the 6th of last month due to a hip injury. Currently, Kiwoom is maintaining its starting rotation with injury replacement foreign pitcher Lachlan Wells.
Manager Hong Won-ki said, 'Though nothing has been specifically decided yet, it seems that surgery will be necessary for a complete recovery due to the ongoing pain caused by the bone growth in the hip area. I think returning for the rest of the season may be uncertain.'
Regarding Rosenberg's condition, a representative from Kiwoom explained, 'Rosenberg is currently receiving treatment in the country to alleviate pain in the injured area, but recovery is slow. Considering that a normal return might be difficult, we are also reviewing the option of sending him to the United States for local treatment and deciding on specific treatment directions, including whether surgery is necessary.'
Kiwoom has constructed its starting lineup with Song Seong-mun (third baseman), Lim Ji-yeol (left fielder), Lee Ju-hyung (center fielder), Choi Joo-hwan (first baseman), Joo Seong-won (right fielder), Won Seong-jun (designated hitter), Uh Jeon-seo (shortstop), Kim Keon-hee (catcher), and Jeon Tae-hyun (second baseman). The starting pitcher is Park Joo-seong. Lachlan Wells has been removed from the first team roster, and Won Seong-jun has been called up.
Wells, who is maintaining a spot in the starting rotation in place of Rosenberg, has shown solid performance with 1 win, 1 loss, and an earned run average of 3.21 in 3 games (14 innings). Manager Hong Won-ki positively assessed, 'Though he has only pitched 3 games so far, his control on the mound and pitch selection seem to be as expected.'
Regarding Wells being removed from the first team roster, Manager Hong Won-ki explained, 'It's difficult for him to pitch in the remaining games of the first half anyway, and he slightly bruised his finger in the 5th inning of yesterday's game. I was worried about the 6th inning, but fortunately, he ended it well with three outs. I think he will be able to enter the starting rotation normally after the All-Star break.'
