Tottenham Hotspur Women strengthened their defense by signing Feyenoord Frauen's Japanese defender Doko Koga (19).
Tottenham Women announced on their official website on June 2 (Korea time) that they have signed a contract with Koga until June 2029, and their jersey number is 32.
Born in 2006, Koga transferred to Feyenoord Frauen from the Japan Football Association (JFA) Academy Fukushima last January. In the 2023-2024 season, she secured her position as a starter by scoring 3 goals in 35 matches. As part of the Japanese national team, she contributed to winning a gold medal at the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games and advancing to the quarterfinals of the 2024 Paris Olympics.
She also stood out in international competitions. This winter, she led Japan to their first championship by scoring the winning goal against the United States in the final of the SheBelieves Cup, hosted by the United States Soccer Federation (USSF).
Meanwhile, the Tottenham men's team is also set to sign Japanese defender Kota Takai. Takai, a member of Kawasaki Frontale, had his transfer announced on the 30th of last month. He will have a farewell ceremony after the home match against Kashima Antlers in the J1 League on the 5th.
Sam McBell of the British media BBC noted on the 24th of last month that Tottenham has completed an agreement with Kawasaki for Takai's transfer, with a transfer fee of £5 million (approximately 9.2 billion won), and he is expected to join Tottenham in August to compete with Kevin Danso, Radu Dragusin, Cristian Romero, and Micky van de Ven.
