The 2025 Daegu World University Taekwondo Festival (World University Taekwondo Festival, WUTF), an international sports culture festival uniting young people from around the world through taekwondo, will be held from April 5 to 8 at the gymnasium of Keimyung University in Daegu.
This tournament is a G1 level event jointly approved by the International University Sports Federation (FISU) and World Taekwondo, and will award Olympic ranking points in an international competition for university taekwondo players.
The events will include recognized poomsae (G1), freestyle poomsae (G1), and sparring (G1), and will be diverse, including beginner and recreational sports-focused institutional sector 2 and 3 competitions, running for four days until April 8.
All matches will be conducted in a tournament format according to the official regulations of World Taekwondo, allowing participants to improve their skills on the university sports stage while earning international ranking points.
Last year, approximately 1,800 participants from 56 countries successfully launched this event. This year marks its second occurrence, with over 900 athletes registered from 41 countries, along with operational personnel and volunteers, totaling over 2,000 individuals participating directly or indirectly in the tournament.
The event is hosted by World Taekwondo (WT) and the International University Sports Federation (FISU), with sponsorship from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Daegu Metropolitan City, and Daegu's Dalseo District.
Jeong Byeong-gi, Secretary General of the organizing committee and a professor at Keimyung University, said, “This international event held in Daegu is not just a venue for matches but a precious platform where young people from around the world can directly experience exchange and coexistence through taekwondo.” He noted, “As an international sports event held in a local area, Daegu is emerging as a central city for youth diplomacy, and this will further imprint the peaceful values of taekwondo and the status of Korean university sports in the international community.”
The official opening ceremony will be held on April 6 at the indoor gymnasium of Keimyung University.
