The new Tottenham head coach Thomas Frank (51) may soon have news of his first signing. West Ham forward Mohamed Kudus (24) has come onto the radar.
The British media 'Guardian' reported on the 2nd (Korean time) that 'Tottenham has begun efforts to sign Kudus. The buyout amount, which was £85 million (about 159.1 billion won), has been reduced to £60 million (about 112.3 billion won), allowing for progress in negotiations. Coach Frank has also agreed to the signing.'
This summer, Tottenham fully signed defenders Kevin Danso and forward Mathys Tel, investing £60 million. They were players who had previously played for Tottenham on loan.
Tottenham also spent £5 million (about 9.3 billion won) to sign Japanese defender Kota Takai.
Coach Frank continues to demand reinforcement in the attack. Although there have been many rumors that Eberechi Eze (Crystal Palace) and Bryan Mbeumo (Brentford) were potential signings, Kudus has risen as the top target for Tottenham.
Since the Premier League launched in the 1992-1993 season, only five direct transactions have occurred between Tottenham and West Ham. The most recent was the transfer of Scott Parker in 2011.
Tottenham hopes to break a 14-year silence with West Ham regarding a transaction.
Another British media outlet, 'Teamtalk,' reported that 'The possibility of Kudus transferring to Tottenham was initially slim, but according to transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano, Kudus is open to a transfer to Tottenham. West Ham has also created room for negotiation by lowering the price.'
'Guardian' claimed that '£60 million is a manageable amount for Chairman Daniel Levy.'
Coach Frank highly values Kudus's versatility.
Kudus can play both centrally and on the flanks, making him a notable alternative to Son Heung-min.
'Teamtalk' shared that 'Although Kudus scored only five goals and provided four assists last season, Coach Frank believes he has the potential to record double-digit attacking points.'
Additionally, the media reported that 'Tottenham is planning significant signings in the summer market along with their return to the Champions League. However, to maintain financial balance, the transfer of some key resources is also unavoidable. Following Son Heung-min, Richarlison is also likely to be transferred this summer.'
The British media 'Football London' reported on the 30th of last month that 'MLS and Saudi Arabian clubs have shown interest in Son Heung-min. He is expected to join the squad, which is about to start preseason training, and meet with Coach Thomas Frank to discuss his future.'
It was noted that 'Son Heung-min has shown a more open attitude toward a transfer this summer compared to the past. Having lifted the trophy that Tottenham desired, he is considering a transfer. The club has a policy of allowing Son, who has dedicated 10 years, to decide his own transfer fate.'
The contract between Son Heung-min and Tottenham ends in June 2026. To avoid allowing him to leave on a free transfer next summer, this summer is the club's 'optimal time to sell Son Heung-min.'
Tottenham's position is to respect his wishes rather than forcibly hold onto him if a transfer request from Son Heung-min occurs.
