Could a new turning point arise?
On the 28th (Korea time), the British 'London World' reported, "Manager Frank has shown outstanding leadership in developing young wingers, and this could be a good opportunity for Tottenham's promising player Yang Min-hyuk."
Tottenham has recently parted ways with manager Ange Postecoglou and transitioned to a system under Manager Frank, embarking on a squad reshuffle and preparations for a return to the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Champions League.
Yang Min-hyuk is a rookie who took the K League 1 by storm after making his professional debut with Gangwon FC in the 2024 season. In just his debut season, he recorded 38 matches with 12 goals and 6 assists, showcasing decision-making and creativity that are exceptional for a newcomer. After the season, he was named to the K League 1 Best XI and won the Young Player Award, gaining attention as "the discovery of the year."
His potential was quickly recognized in Europe. Several clubs showed interest, and eventually, Yang Min-hyuk donned a Tottenham jersey through the winter transfer window. However, breaking into the first team was not easy. Having not gained firsthand opportunities in Tottenham's highly competitive attacking line, he was promptly loaned to Queens Park Rangers (QPR) in the English Championship (second division).
Adjustment at QPR also happened rapidly. Yang Min-hyuk recorded 2 goals and 1 assist in 14 matches during the second half of the season and showed a growing integration into the team's tactics as he continued to play. Coach Shifuentes positively assessed, "Yang Min-hyuk is quick and strong in one-on-one situations. While there are still many things to learn, he has a great attitude and is becoming increasingly accustomed to the pace of the game."
Goal.com also highlighted his growth. In the '50 best young talents in the world for 2024' announced last March, Yang Min-hyuk was listed, stating, "With Son Heung-min's presence, the consolidation between Korea and Tottenham is already special. Tottenham holds hopes for Yang Min-hyuk to follow in Son Heung-min's footsteps."
Local media forecast that Manager Frank's appointment could provide Yang Min-hyuk with significant growth opportunities. The London World noted, "Ahead of the 2025-2026 season, Yang Min-hyuk is expected to participate regularly in Tottenham's first team training while also playing in U-21 matches. Manager Frank is a coach specialized in developing young wingers. He emphasizes that Yang Min-hyuk is someone who could guide him to become a world-class player."
QPR commentator Luis Moyes said in an interview with the British 'Football League World,' "From the moment QPR signed Yang Min-hyuk and I saw his first game, I thought he was a really good player. He is an incredibly talented young player," adding, "He can play in all positions across the second line and as a central striker. He excels at dribbling through tight spaces."
In particular, Manager Frank is a master of developing wing forwards. The London World emphasized, "Manager Frank is a coach who knows how to create turning points for young talents. He could possibly convert him to a wing-back like Luis Potter. If it's Frank, he has the potential to develop Yang Min-hyuk into a world-class player."
