Carlo Ancelotti (66), the head coach of the Brazilian national team, has expressed his trust in Neymar (33, Santos), who is preparing to return from injury.
As the Brazilian national team has secured its qualification for the 2026 North American World Cup, the 'Seleção,' led by Carlo Ancelotti, is already shifting its focus to the next goal. Ancelotti mentioned the future operational policies of the national team and key players in a recent interview with the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) official channel.
Among these, what caught the most attention was his comments about Neymar. Despite multiple injuries and absences, Neymar, still regarded as a symbol of Brazil, has Ancelotti's firm support.
According to the Italian 'Di Marzio' on the 27th (Korea time), Ancelotti said, "Neymar is a very important player for us. He needs to prepare well ahead of the World Cup. There is plenty of time to get ready."
Neymar has struggled with numerous injuries. After concluding his European journey with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), Neymar transferred to Al Hilal with the highest transfer fee in Saudi league history, embarking on a new challenge in Asia; however, he was sidelined for the season due to anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus tears.
Subsequently, in January 2025, he moved back to his former team, Santos, without having made a significant impact at Al Hilal, where he now wears the number 10 jersey. However, in March, he suffered another left thigh injury, which has kept him out of matches for the time being, preventing his return to the Brazilian national team.
Despite this situation, Ancelotti added, "He remains at the center of the national team's big picture," delivering a clear message.
With about a year and a half remaining until the World Cup in 2026, Neymar's physical and mental recovery will be one of the biggest variables influencing the fate of the Brazilian national team. Although numerous threatening wingers, such as Raphinha and Vinícius, have emerged, it is still assessed that the ace of Brazil is Neymar. Ancelotti seems to be well aware of this fact and appears to still believe in his talent.
Neymar has been shaken by injuries, criticism, and issues at his club. However, Ancelotti's expectations for him remain unchanged. Brazil is waiting for Neymar to return in 'full form.'
