Professional baseball player Han Seung-hyeok (32) of Hanwha Eagles suffered a painful loss after allowing a heartbreaking comeback.

Hanwha suffered a shocking 6-8 defeat against SSG Landers in the '2025 Shinhan Bank SOL Bank KBO League' game held on the 27th at Incheon SSG Landers Field.

The game started well. In the first inning, Roh Si-hwan hit a three-run home run, taking the lead. In the second inning, Moon Hyun-bin drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, and Choi In-ho added to the score with an RBI double, extending the lead to 5-0. SSG rallied in the bottom of the third with a three-run homer from Choi Jung, but Hanwha pushed the score to 6-3 again with an RBI double from Choi In-ho in the top of the fourth.

However, SSG persistently chased Hanwha. In the bottom of the fifth, Guillermo Heredia hit an RBI single, and in the sixth inning, Ahn Sang-hyun followed with another RBI single.

Holding a precarious 6-5 lead, Hanwha handed the mound to Park Sang-won in the seventh inning. Park Sang-won quickly secured two outs by getting Choi Ji-hoon and Heredia to make outs. However, giving a walk to Choi Jung began to shift the momentum of the game.

Park Sang-won allowed a hit to Han Yu-seom, putting him in a crisis with two outs and runners on first and third. To escape the crisis, Hanwha brought in Han Seung-hyeok. However, Han Seung-hyeok ended up giving a walk to Ko Myung-jun, loading the bases. He then issued another walk to Park Seong-han on the fifth pitch, allowing a frustrating tying run at 6-6.

With the bases still loaded, Han Seung-hyeok faced pinch-hitter Oh Tae-gon. However, a fastball thrown to get a strike was taken advantage of, resulting in a two-run game-changing single. After allowing the comeback to a score of 6-8, Han Seung-hyeok handed the mound to Cho Dong-uk and was replaced. Cho Dong-uk allowed Jeong Jun-jae to reach base on a walk but extinguished the immediate threat by striking out Ahn Sang-hyun. However, Hanwha's batters could not score against SSG's winning pitchers, ultimately ending the game with a 6-8 loss.

Han Seung-hyeok has recorded 1 win, 2 losses, and 11 holds with an earned run average of 2.55 in 40 games (35⅓ innings) this season. Despite having a great season, he has shown some signs of struggle. In particular, it's concerning that the walks, which he managed to control successfully earlier in the season, have been increasing. In his last appearance, he recorded a scoreless inning against Samsung but gave up two walks. In this game, he frustratingly allowed the tying run on a walk and created a bases-loaded situation, ultimately leaving the mound without recording a single out.

Hanwha has a record of 44 wins, 1 tie, and 31 losses this season, achieving a win rate of .587, and is currently tied for first place with LG. Following this comeback loss, they ended up tied for first place with LG, who secured a victory.

While maintaining their position near the top of the league, Hanwha has consistently been criticized for its poor scoring ability. Nevertheless, the reason Hanwha has achieved good results this year is largely due to the strength of their strong starting rotation and bullpen. If the bullpen's strength is diminished, there is a risk that Hanwha may face a significant crisis. To remain competitive for the top spot throughout the remainder of the season, it is crucial for the bullpen to maintain stable performances.
