'Single-minded' Manchester United. Bryan Mbeumo (26, Brentford) expressed his rejection of Tottenham Hotspur.

The Athletic reported on the 28th (Korean time) that 'Mbeumo has notified Brentford and Tottenham that he has decided to join Manchester United if he transfers this summer.'

Cameroon-born forward Mbeumo is capable of playing as a right winger and a center forward. He has been active at Brentford since August 2019 and has not changed his uniform even after the team was promoted to the Premier League.

In particular, Mbeumo had his best season last year. He participated in all 38 Premier League matches, recording 20 goals and 7 assists, setting a new career high. Although his partner Ivan Toney left for Saudi Arabia last summer, Mbeumo shone even brighter and established himself as an ace. His overall record at Brentford is 242 matches and 70 goals.

Manchester United, looking to strengthen their attack this summer, has earmarked Mbeumo. With Matheus Cunha and Bruno Fernandes already signed, a triangle formation with Mbeumo is being envisioned. It is also reported that they have secured the transfer fee to invest in acquiring Mbeumo.

Mbeumo also wants to transfer to Manchester United. He has also drawn interest from other Premier League big clubs such as Arsenal and Newcastle United, but he has made the decision to join Manchester United. Like Cunha, he is known to have a particular affection for Manchester United.

However, a variable arose as Tottenham intervened. Tottenham attempted a late hijacking of Mbeumo after bringing in Thomas Frank, the manager from Brentford. They hope that Frank’s presence, having worked with Mbeumo for six years, will help persuade him. The fact that they are competing in the UEFA Champions League, unlike Manchester United, could also be a positive factor.

However, in terms of financial power, it is not easy for Tottenham to surpass Manchester United. Especially, a much tighter wage structure than Manchester United's poses a challenge. According to the UK’s Mirror, Tottenham will have difficulty matching the wages that Manchester United is proposing, even with bonuses.

Crucially, Mbeumo is still looking solely at Manchester United. He has already reached a personal agreement with Manchester United and is just waiting for Brentford to accept Manchester United's offer. According to the BBC, Manchester United is confident in acquiring Mbeumo for this reason.

The problem lies in negotiating the transfer fee. Manchester United has recently sent a second offer, but this too has reportedly been rejected. Brentford is seeking more than the previously reported £60 million (approximately 112.3 billion won) for Mbeumo.

The Athletic reported that 'Manchester United initially proposed a transfer fee of £45 million (approximately 84.2 billion won), including a £10 million (approximately 18.7 billion won) bonus for Mbeumo. This level falls far short of Brentford's valuation. Manchester United sent a second offer of £55 million (approximately 102.9 billion won), including a £7.5 million (approximately 14 billion won) bonus, but this was also rejected.'

Mbeumo's contract runs until June 2026, but with an option to extend for another year, Brentford is in a favorable negotiating position. For now, Manchester United and Brentford are continuing transfer negotiations in search of a compromise.

One thing is clear: the likelihood of Mbeumo donning a Tottenham jersey is slim. According to The Athletic, Tottenham has not even sent an official offer for Mbeumo and is no longer pursuing his acquisition. Their stance may change only if Manchester United's attempt to secure Mbeumo fails.

The media stated that 'Frank's departure from Brentford to become the new Tottenham manager has heightened expectations for Mbeumo at Tottenham. However, the Cameroon national team player Mbeumo has indicated that if he leaves the Gtech Community Stadium (Brentford's home ground), he will transfer to Old Trafford (Manchester United's home ground).'

Previously, Mbeumo remarked, 'Frank literally believed in me from the beginning. He has developed the team really well. He has made me grow as a human being and a player. I just hope everything goes well. I am confident he will do well. He seems to know everything and is really smart. He was fantastic.' However, in the midst of the situation between Tottenham and Manchester United, he is unhesitatingly focusing only on Manchester United.

However, there is a possibility that Manchester United may withdraw from acquiring Mbeumo if Brentford continues to make excessive demands. The Athletic reported that 'Manchester United has secured funds to acquire Mbeumo without having to sell existing players first. However, they plan to adhere to transfer market principles and will not pay an excessive expense.'
