Paralympic weightlifter Yang Se-wook (33 years old, affiliated with Incheon Metropolitan City Disabled Sports Association) has signed a management contract with Prain Sports (CEO Kim Pyeong-gi). Yang plans to participate in major competitions and aims to win medals at the Paralympics, as well as engage in broadcasting and content activities that promote the power of sports together with Prain Sports.
Yang Se-wook's story transcends sports, showcasing the greatness of humanity and leads to a message of hope and courage for someone, rather than being merely a challenge.
Yang Se-wook is a 'one-of-a-kind' athlete who has walked a special path. He suffered a fall accident in 2015 and was diagnosed with complete paralysis of the lower body, yet he is the protagonist of a 'medical miracle' who regained the ability to walk through an indomitable rehabilitation will. Yang began with rehabilitation and, while steadily exercising for physical training and mental recovery, found an opportunity for new challenges in weightlifting. Just two weeks after starting weightlifting, he won a bronze medal in the overall category at the 2024 Fall Disabled Weightlifting Championship, and three months later, he proved his talent by winning a bronze medal in powerlifting at the 44th National Disabled Sports Competition. Recently, despite moving up a weight class from -80kg to -88kg, he continues his steady growth as an athlete by winning a silver medal in powerlifting and a bronze medal in weightlifting at the 2025 Disabled Weightlifting President's Cup.
Yang Se-wook also suffers from a rare disease called Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), which causes severe pain from even slight contact. For him, weightlifting is not just a sport; it is a symbol of enduring and proving himself.
Yang Se-wook is challenging the content realm as an icon of hope and courage beyond being an athlete. Recently, he has appeared on various YouTube channels like "Wiracle," "Scryke," and "Yooners" to share his story with the public and deliver uplifting messages to individuals with disabilities and disabled athletes. Prain Sports plans to actively leverage its organizational PR capabilities and communication assets to ensure that Yang Se-wook's story reaches a wider audience.
Currently, Prain Sports is working with top Korean golf players such as Lee Jung-min, Ma Da-som, Lim Hee-jung, Park Gyeol, Lim Jin-hee, and Oh Soo-min. In particular, they have recently signed contracts with Kim Ha-neul (former professional golfer), Lee Dae-hoon (former national taekwondo representative), Kim Jun-hyeon (former national skeleton representative), and Lee Geun-ho (former national soccer representative), expanding their partnership across all stages of athlete careers, regardless of sports or current participation.
Kim Pyeong-gi, CEO of Prain Sports, noted, "His journey from a fall to a miracle, overcoming every adversity from despair to hope, resonates greatly with many people. His story of hope resembles the footprints of Prain Sports, which has grown through trial and error and challenges." He added, "I want to share the limitless potential and value of disabled sports with more people."
Yang Se-wook also stated, "All the trials up to now have made me stronger," and expressed, "I have high expectations of becoming a more solid athlete with Prain Sports and taking on various challenges." He further added, "I hope my story can provide courage and strength to those facing similar difficulties, helping them lift their own big and small miracles."
Yang Se-wook's ultimate goal is to wear a medal at the Paralympic stage. He describes this challenge as "a journey to convey a message rather than a competition for records." Prain Sports plans to continue providing generous support for his stable rehabilitation and athletic career as he aims to lift yet another miracle.
