The key player in the LG Twins' professional baseball unified championship reported their first win just nine days after returning from military service.
Lee Jeong-yong took the mound on the 26th at Suwon KT Wiz Park in the seventh game of the 2025 Shinhan SOL Bank KBO League season against the KT Wiz, coming in as a reliever and throwing one inning with one hit allowed, no walks, one strikeout, and no earned runs on 13 pitches. It was a valuable relief victory that backed the team's 4-3 comeback win.
Lee Jeong-yong pitched as the team's fifth pitcher in the bottom of the eighth inning, trailing 2-3. It was his appearance five days after pitching against the Doosan Bears on the 21st (one inning, no earned runs).
Lee Jeong-yong faced the rookie of the year competitor, muscleman Ahn Hyun-min, and caught a fly ball in center field. He then allowed a left-field hit to Jang Seong-woo but faced a scoring threat with one out and runners on second and third due to a left fielder's fielding error. However, he struck out Lee Jeong-hoon swinging and got Heo Gyeong-min to ground out to third base, ending the inning without allowing any runs.
LG wrote a comeback drama in the top of the ninth inning. It started with a double hit into the right-center wall by Cheon Seong-ho, who joined the team via trade the previous day and made his first start. He successfully faced KT's closer Park Young-hyun's first pitch of 146 km/h to create a no-out opportunity with a runner on second. Following this, Gu Bon-hyeok's sacrifice bunt and Park Hae-min's hit by pitch and stolen base set the table with one out and runners on second and third, allowing third-base runner Cheon Seong-ho to score the equalizer on a wild pitch. Then, at the plate, Shin Min-jae delivered a game-winning hit after eight pitches to become the hero of the base hit.
Lee Jeong-yong handed the baton to closer Yoo Young-chan in the bottom of the ninth, leading 4-3, and Yoo Young-chan took care of the final inning without allowing any runs, tasting his first victory since returning from military service.
Lee Jeong-yong, who reported his first win just nine days after returning from military service on the 17th, said, "It was great to win sooner than I expected after returning from the military. It was especially meaningful to contribute to the team's comeback victory." He also noted, "Watching the game, I had faith that if I pitched well, my teammates could make a comeback."
He added, "I thought I needed to create a positive atmosphere in the team after returning. I’m happy to have played a role in helping the team win today and to create a positive environment." He continued, "There are players with good condition and others who are not at their best, but everyone is doing their best. I believe that as the team atmosphere is good, we will achieve better results. I will also do my best to prepare in my position."
He did not forget to greet the LG fans, who enthusiastically waved yellow towels in the third base stands at Wiz Park, despite it being a weekday. Lee Jeong-yong expressed, "It was an away game, but so many Twins fans came to support us, which gave me a lot of strength. I always thank our fans."
