Professional baseball player Kim Jae-hwan of the Doosan Bears has avoided a serious injury for now.
Kim Jae-hwan started as the fifth designated hitter in the game against the SSG Landers on the regular season at Jamsil Stadium in Seoul on the 26th. However, he was replaced after collapsing while running the bases in the bottom of the second inning.
Kim Jae-hwan stepped up as the leadoff hitter in the bottom of the second inning and reached base with a single to center field. After walking due to Lee Yoo-chan's walk, Kim Jae-hwan advanced to second base. Kim Min-seok struck out swinging and as a result, during the following one out and runners on first and second, he sprinted home on Park Jun-soon's single to left field.
SSG left fielder Eredia made an accurate throw to home plate. As Kim Jae-hwan sprinted home, he attempted to step on home plate without sliding. Eredia's throw arrived first, and the tag from catcher Jo Hyung-woo and Kim Jae-hwan's attempt to step on home plate occurred simultaneously.
During this process, a collision occurred, and Kim Jae-hwan collapsed after stepping on home plate. He then clutched his left knee and was unable to get up. After being supported by a trainer, he barely got up and headed into the dugout. It was a situation where a serious injury was a concern.
However, it appears that he has avoided a serious injury for now. A Doosan official said, "Kim Jae-hwan was substituted due to a bruise on his left thigh. He is receiving icing treatment, and there are currently no plans for a hospital examination."
