The roster for the team participating in the East Asian Cup has increased to 26 players, with 3 additional athletes selected.
The Korea Football Association (KFA) announced on the 25th that it has additionally selected 3 players for both the men's and women's national teams. Due to the decision of the East Asian Football Federation (EAFF), the roster for the upcoming EAFF E-1 Championship has been expanded from the original 23 players to 26.
The men's national team includes midfielder Kang Sang-yoon (Jeonbuk Hyundai), Mo Jae-hyun (Gangwon FC), and forward Joo Min-kyu (Daejeon Hana Citizen). Among these, Kang Sang-yoon and Mo Jae-hyun have been selected for their first-ever A national team. Veteran forward Joo Min-kyu has returned to the national team after performing consistently since transferring to Daejeon.
The women's national team also sees 3 new additions to the roster. Defender Lee Min-hwa (Hwacheon KSPO) and midfielders Kim Min-ji (Seoul City Hall) and Lee Eun-young (Changnyeong WFC) have joined to strengthen the team. Among them, Kim Min-ji has earned her first A national team selection, proudly donning the national emblem.
The EAFF E-1 Championship is a tournament to determine the strongest football nation in East Asia, held for both men's and women's divisions. The men's division started in 2003, marking its 10th edition this year, while the women's division began in 2005, celebrating its 9th tournament. Korea holds the record for the most championships in the men's division with 5 wins, while Japan is the most successful in the women's division with 4 championships.
The men's division features Korea, Japan, China, and Hong Kong, with all matches taking place at Yongin Mirae Stadium. The match dates are the 7th, 8th, 11th, 12th, and 15th, with two matches scheduled for the 15th. The women's division includes Korea, Japan, China, and Taiwan. North Korea, which was initially set to participate as the first qualifier, will not attend, allowing Taiwan, which was the second qualifier, to compete.
