Los Angeles Dodgers' Shohei Ohtani (31) is leading the National League All-Star voting.
Major League Baseball's official media, MLB.com, announced the mid-results of the All-Star voting on the 24th (Korean time). Ohtani received 2,521,718 votes, securing the top spot in the National League.
Ohtani is a Major League Baseball superstar who has recorded a batting average of .282 over 952 games (3,425 at-bats, 967 hits), 251 home runs, 616 RBIs, 638 runs, and 156 stolen bases, along with an OPS of .952 as a hitter; and 88 games (483⅔ innings) as a pitcher, boasting a record of 38 wins and 19 losses with an earned run average of 3.01. He has an impressive award history, including the American League Rookie of the Year in 2018, the American League MVP in 2021 and 2023, and the National League MVP in 2024.
Ohtani, the only two-way star player in Major League Baseball, underwent elbow surgery in September 2023 and did not pitch last year, but he has returned to the mound this year. He has appeared in two games as a pitcher (2 innings), recording an earned run average of 4.50. He plans to gradually increase his pitching innings for the remainder of the season. As a hitter, he has a batting average of .291 over 77 games (306 at-bats, 89 hits), with 26 home runs, 49 RBIs, 76 runs, 11 stolen bases, and an OPS of 1.014.
Thanks to his performance, Ohtani is receiving strong support from fans, ranking 2nd in total votes among both leagues, just behind Aaron Judge (Yankees), and 1st in the National League voting. MLB.com noted, “Ohtani is in a position to aim for the overall top spot in the All-Star voting. He received 2,521,718 votes. He is one of the four players in the National League who received more than 2 million votes, alongside Dodgers' Freddie Freeman, Will Smith, and Cubs' Pete Crow-Armstrong.”
MLB.com stated, “Ohtani is currently leading the National League in votes, and if he maintains this ranking, he will be confirmed as the starting designated hitter in the National League.” It added, “Despite undergoing elbow surgery and not taking the mound in 2024, he is proving himself as a two-way superstar by holding a lead of over 1.4 million votes over 2nd place Rafael Devers (San Francisco).”
Meanwhile, Judge, who is performing as the best hitter in Major League Baseball, is leading the fan voting for both leagues over Ohtani with 2,699,483 votes, the highest number among all players. MLB.com explained, “Judge could become the first player since Alex Rodriguez in 2007 and 2008 to lead the All-Star voting two consecutive years. He is approximately 800,000 votes ahead of Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh (1,901,389 votes), who is 2nd in the American League voting.”
Judge has a career batting average of .294 over 1,070 games (3,850 at-bats, 1,131 hits), 342 home runs, 777 RBIs, 803 runs, and 59 stolen bases, with an OPS of 1.024. This season, he has also recorded an outstanding batting average of .367 over 77 games (286 at-bats, 105 hits), with 27 home runs, 61 RBIs, 67 runs, 6 stolen bases, and an OPS of 1.195.
