Gen.Kim Tae-young (54), a key figure in the 2002 Korea-Japan World Cup 'semifinal legend,' is making his debut in the Laos professional football scene. He has been appointed as the inaugural head coach of the newly formed first division team Champasak Abniel FC.
Champasak Abniel announced on the 24th (Korean time) that 'Manager Kim Tae-young will serve as the club's first head coach.' His official term will start on July 1.
The club noted, 'Manager Kim's extensive coaching history, strategic insight on the Asian stage, and leadership in developing young players are highly valued.'
As a player, Gen.Kim Tae-young established himself as a top defender in the K League while playing as a central defender for Jeonnam Dragons. He represented the national team 105 times while wearing the Taegeuk mark and earned a spot in the FIFA Century Club.
In particular, he earned the nickname 'Mask Man' for participating in the 2002 Korea-Japan World Cup with a protective face mask.
After transitioning to coaching, Gen.Kim Tae-young served as a coach for the South Korea Under-20 (U-20), Under-23 (U-23), and senior national teams. He also worked as a coaching staff member for prestigious K League clubs such as Suwon Samsung, Jeonnam Dragons, and Ulsan Hyundai.
This appointment is the first head coach selection made after DJ Management acquired the operating rights for Champasak United in April and changed the team name to 'Champasak Abniel FC.'
