The starting pitcher was replaced due to an unexpected injury in the top of the 3rd inning, but they secured a 5-0 victory. It was a possible win thanks to Park Shin-ji, who managed the chaos and took responsibility for the long inning.
The Doosan Bears achieved a rain-shortened victory of 5-0 against the SSG Landers in the 6th game of the 2025 Shinhan SOL Bank KBO League on the 24th at Seoul's Jamsil Stadium.
Doosan triumphed in the three-game series, recording 30 wins, 3 draws, and 42 losses for the season. They also snapped a five-game losing streak on Tuesday.
The game was interrupted by heavy rain just as the bottom of the 6th inning was about to begin with Doosan leading 5-0. The interruption was declared at 8:21 p.m., and after about an hour of waiting, Doosan's rain-shortened victory was confirmed.
Doosan faced a challenge when starting pitcher Choi Won-jun left the mound in the top of the 3rd inning after suffering a skin abrasion on his right middle finger, having pitched 2 innings with 1 hit and no runs. Park Shin-ji then came in and pitched 3 innings with 1 hit, 2 walks, and 2 strikeouts, without allowing any runs, marking his first win of the season. It was Doosan's third win overall, obtained after 1,139 days since their last win against the Kiwoom Heroes on May 12, 2022. Choi Ji-gang also pitched 1 inning without allowing any runs.
The batting lineup was led by Yang Eui-ji with 2 hits and 3 RBIs in 3 at-bats, while Kim Min-seok contributed with 2 hits and 1 run in 2 at-bats.
Doosan's acting manager Jo Sung-hwan noted after the game, "Starting pitcher Choi Won-jun left the mound due to an unexpected injury, but Park Shin-ji, who came in suddenly, managed to get through the innings we needed. That was a valuable out. Also, captain Yang Eui-ji showed focused play on both offense and defense. He held the center well," commending the standout players.
He continued, "Despite the bad weather, all the players demonstrated a strong will to win. I applaud the whole team for showing a good performance to the fans who remained in the first base stands even in the rain."
Yang Eui-ji, who had 3 RBIs, said, "Because it was raining, I tried to focus more than usual both at the plate and in defense. Since my juniors created opportunities, I approached my at-bats with the thought of bringing them home, which led to good results. This was a game where my juniors, who didn’t hold back for me, played a bigger role."
He also stated, "Today was a meaningful day for the fire service family visiting Jamsil Baseball Stadium. So, the significance of the victory seems even greater. I would like to take this opportunity to thank those who always protect us."
Doosan aims to secure an early winning series with foreign ace Koerbin, who has been reconditioned, on the 25th. SSG announced Kim Gun-woo.
