Despite the torrential rains, more than 20,000 spectators visited Jeonju Stadium.
Jeonbuk Hyundai and FC Seoul played to a 1-1 draw in the Hana Bank K League 1 2025 Round 20 match on the 21st at Jeonju World Cup Stadium.
With this draw, Jeonbuk solidified its top position with 12 wins, 6 draws, and 2 losses for a total of 42 points. In particular, Jeonbuk continued its unbeaten streak of 16 matches, showcasing its stable power.
Amidst the heavy rain, Jeonbuk achieved a significant record in the match against Seoul. A total of 22,862 spectators, far exceeding the average attendance this season, visited the stadium.
On the 31st of last month, Jeonbuk recorded its first sell-out crowd in the match against Ulsan and had high hopes for the match against Seoul as well. However, there were many concerns due to the rain that had been falling since the morning. Yet, with many Seoul fans joining the Jeonbuk fans, more than 20,000 spectators visited Jeonju Stadium.
First and foremost, the results are the main factor. Jeonbuk is now riding a wave of momentum as the Porchettino coaching system has fully established itself. Jeonbuk has already achieved its points total from last season with 12 wins, 6 draws, and 2 losses with a total of 42 points, having remained unbeaten in the last 16 matches (11 wins, 5 draws).
After the match, Coach Porchettino expressed his joy, noting that "what's important is that we have already achieved last season's points total. The players have all worked hard for this result."
Of course, there is still a lot of the season remaining, but Jeonbuk continues to showcase outstanding performance.
Even at the beginning of the season, Coach Porchettino's style of football had not been fully established. However, thanks to efforts to solidify a core starting lineup and implant his style of football, Jeonbuk has regained its stature as a strong team.
In particular, there are virtually no regular national team players in the current squad. However, Jeonbuk is regaining the aura of its dynasty era through collective strength and organization.
Lee Seung-woo described the team atmosphere positively, saying, "There are many good players on our team, so training is always fiercely competitive. However, in that environment, we are learning a lot and focusing on our individual roles without blaming each other."
He added, "There are many players who can contribute to the team whenever given the opportunity. I think this has become a strength for Jeonbuk this season. The players who come on as substitutes in the second half are also performing their roles well."
Having played for various teams in Europe and the K League, including Barcelona, Lee Seung-woo expressed satisfaction with the current atmosphere of Jeonbuk. He said, "Now that Jeonbuk is getting good results, the atmosphere is naturally good. When I first arrived last year, the team’s performance was not good, and the atmosphere was heavy, but now it is clearly different. Compared to my time at Suwon, the current team atmosphere is very comfortable and positive."
In particular, he pointed to psychological stability as a key factor in the team's change. He remarked, "Last season, every game felt like a chase and we often missed winning opportunities. In contrast, now, the players are performing their roles much better in a stable atmosphere," adding, "The coach is also showing trust in the players, and that is leading to good performance, resulting in the consolidation of our results."
Even without a definitive superstar, Jeonbuk is attracting fans to the stadium with its performance and results.
Meanwhile, before the match against Seoul, Jeonbuk held a special event with its supporters, M.G.B. They invited 625 veterans to watch the match together. Especially when two veterans came to the stadium and greeted everyone, both Jeonbuk and Seoul fans gave them heartfelt applause and greetings.
