England national team defender Marc Guéhi (25, Crystal Palace) is reportedly considering a transfer as a free agent (FA) without renewing his contract next summer. Following this, there are expectations that Tottenham may attempt to reacquire him.
British media outlet 'Talksport' reported on the 23rd (Korea time) that "Guéhi is willing to leave the team as a free agent next summer after completing his contract with the team" and claimed that "Liverpool, Newcastle United, Tottenham, Barcelona, and Bayern Munich are monitoring Guéhi’s situation at Crystal Palace."
Guéhi made a strong impact as a key defender after transferring from Chelsea to Crystal Palace in 2021. He played 36 out of 38 league matches in his debut season and has continued to show growth each season.
Guéhi has been continuing the season without major injuries, except for a knee injury that sidelined him for a while during the 2023-2024 season. His five-year contract will expire in the summer of 2026.
As Guéhi's contract expires in June 2026, Palace sees this summer as its last opportunity to sell him. Therefore, Palace has set Guéhi’s price tag at over 50 million pounds (about 92.9 billion won).
Interest in Guéhi has been strong for some time. Newcastle made four offers last summer to acquire him, with the final offer reaching 65 million pounds (about 120.8 billion won).
Tottenham also faced rejection in the winter transfer market but offered up to 70 million pounds (about 130.1 billion won) to acquire Guéhi. If Cristian Romero (27), who is being targeted by Atletico Madrid, leaves, Tottenham may reignite their interest in Guéhi.
Former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino noted through 'Talksport' that "if I want to leave a year before my contract expires, it’s the club that determines my value and whether to accept it," adding that "they may not like that."
He continued, "From Guéhi’s perspective, Palace had a great season last year and won the FA Cup. He has also had another solid season," stating that "he might be thinking, 'If a fair offer comes, I’d like to be sold now.' He has had a great season at Palace."
Cascarino stated, "Guéhi will want to play for a national team and a Champions League team," emphasizing that "it’s natural to want to play for a top team that challenges for titles. He may feel he deserves to leave now after serving enough at Palace."
In particular, Cascarino stated, "Guéhi is definitely capable of playing for both Liverpool and Newcastle. There’s no doubt about his ability. I think he is a top center-back," adding that "he has good speed and decent ball-handling skills."
