Son Heung-min (33, Tottenham Hotspur) is reportedly facing the possibility of reuniting with Bayer 04 Leverkusen, where he previously played.

The foreign media outlet OneFootball reported on the 21st (Korea time), citing transfer expert Ben Jacobs, that "Leverkusen may pursue the signing of Son Heung-min."

Leverkusen acquired Son Heung-min in 2013, and he achieved a total of 29 goals in 87 matches.

OneFootball noted that Leverkusen "wants to revive their past connection."

However, it also added that the burden of the transfer fee could be a hindrance, considering the financial situation.

Saudi Arabia's professional league teams, including Al Ahli, Al Nassr, and Al Qadsiah, are also showing interest in Son Heung-min. These clubs are reportedly willing to offer a transfer fee of 40 million euros (about 66.3 billion won) and an annual salary of 30 million euros (about 47.5 billion won).

However, numerous local media outlets report that the decision on whether to transfer depends on Son Heung-min's choice.

Tottenham extended Son Heung-min's contract earlier this year until June 2026. This was a measure to protect his market value.

Since wearing the Tottenham jersey in 2015, Son Heung-min has made 454 appearances, scoring 173 goals and providing 101 assists. He played a key role in winning the UEFA Europa League during the 2024-2025 season.

However, many evaluations suggest that he is unable to perform at the same level as before due to aging issues. As a result, many analyses indicate that Tottenham should sell Son Heung-min this summer to receive an adequate transfer fee.

OneFootball projected that "Tottenham is unlikely to transfer Son Heung-min unless they receive a significant transfer fee offer."

Financial expert Stefan Börson analyzed via Football Insider that Son Heung-min's move to Saudi Arabia is a viable scenario. He stated, "Son Heung-min is a costly player to maintain, and it's uncertain whether he can maintain his current performance level next season. There aren't many teams other than Saudi Arabia that can afford his salary level."

Börson also expressed the opinion that "seeing Son Heung-min solely as a commercial asset is risky. Judged from a performance standpoint, this summer is the right time to part ways."

Son Heung-min is expected to participate in a preseason friendly match against Arsenal in Hong Kong on July 31. He is also likely to take part in the Coupang Play Series match against Newcastle United, to be held at Seoul World Cup Stadium on August 3.

The BBC predicted that Tottenham might delay transfer decisions since Son Heung-min's participation affects the club's revenue. Football London also reported that "it is not easy to play a warm-up match in South Korea without Son Heung-min. Due to concerns over reduced revenue in Korea, his transfer announcement may be postponed until after the tour."

Son Heung-min recently spoke about the numerous transfer rumors following the June international match against Kuwait.

He remarked, "Both the fans and I are curious about (my future). Instead of worrying about the future, it would be better to observe a bit longer what happens right now," adding, "Regardless of where I play or what role I have, I am a player who will always prepare and strive to do my best. I will continue to do my best no matter where I am in the future."
