Quincy Promes, a former Ajax winger who was arrested in Dubai last week at the request of the Dutch police, is sentenced to 7 years and 6 months in prison for drug smuggling and assault.

According to the BBC on the 21st (Korea time), Promes was sentenced to 6 years in prison in February 2024 for the charge of smuggling over 1 ton of cocaine from Belgium to the Netherlands in 2020.

He also received an 18-month prison sentence for stabbing his cousin in the knee at a family gathering in 2020. However, he has not yet been imprisoned for both crimes.

Recently returned to the Netherlands, Promes is expected to serve his prison sentence now.

According to a spokesperson for the prosecution, Promes denies all allegations. He has appealed both cases.

Promes made his professional debut in 2009 with Twente. He later moved to Spartak Moscow in Russia. After spending a year with Sevilla in La Liga in Spain in 2018, he donned the Ajax uniform in 2019. He transferred back to Spartak Moscow in 2021 and played there for three years. In 2024, he moved to Dubai United.

He was first selected for the Netherlands national team in 2014 and has made a total of 50 appearances, scoring 7 goals. His last appearance was in 2023.

It has not yet been determined where Promes will serve his sentence within the Netherlands.
