The Korea Football Science Association (President Hwang Bo-gwan) will hold the '2025 Korea Football Science Association Conference' on June 27 at the Korea National Sport University joint lecture room in Seoul and online (ZOOM). With the theme 'Optimizing Football Performance: Infrastructure, Scientific Evidence, Practical Strategy,' this conference will feature many domestic and international football science experts and field leaders sharing various research results and practical strategies to improve football performance.
The conference will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and the opening ceremony will be attended by Hwang Bo-gwan, president of the Korea Football Science Association, and Chung Mong-gyu, president of the Korea Football Association, who will emphasize the importance and development direction of football science. Yoon Young-gil, a professor at Korea National Sport University, will serve as the moderator.
An award ceremony for the 'SPIK Young Investigator's Award' (hereafter referred to as the SPIK Young Researcher Award) will also take place, which is given to young researchers and practitioners contributing to the advancement of football science. The SPIK Young Researcher Award was established through continuous support from Dr. Jeong Tae-seok (Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at SPIK) to encourage and support young talents in the field of football science research. It aims to discover outstanding young football science researchers and celebrate their achievements through the annual football science conference.
The conference consists of three symposiums and two special lectures. Symposium I will focus on the theme 'Infrastructure and Performance,' with Hong Sung-chan, a professor at Seoul Women's University, serving as the chair. An Chi-jun, head of team at the Korea Professional Football League, will present measures to improve ground quality for enhancing K League performance, while Yang In-kyu, a principal researcher at Korea Conformity Laboratories (KCL), will compare and analyze the sustainability of natural grass and artificial turf. Then, Ryu Je-kwang, a professor at Dongguk University, will discuss the relationship between grass and the brain, and Takagoshi Katsuji, a manager of turf maintenance at Oita Sports Park, will introduce turf maintenance practices at Japanese football fields.
The special lecture session will be chaired by Byeon Jin-soo, a professor at Yonsei University, while Choi Kyu-hah, a professor at the State University of New York (Oneonta), will present on continental tournament trends and strategies for hosting the 2031 Asian Cup. José María Oliva Lozano, research and innovation director at the U.S. Soccer Federation, will lecture on the importance of contextual factors in interpreting the physical demands of football players.
Following in the afternoon, Symposium II will focus on the theme 'Scientific Approaches,' chaired by Jeong Tae-seok, director of SPIK Rehabilitation Medicine. André Roca, a professor at St Mary’s University in the UK, will address decision-making training in coaching, while Song Joon-seop, a professor at Texas A&M University-San Antonio, will discuss the importance of halftime re-warmup. Also, Kim Jong-won, a doctor at Bepro, will present quantitative analysis methods for evaluating players' aerial ball competition abilities, and Ahn Jae-seok, a professor at Jeonju University, will discuss the value of sports.
Finally, Symposium III will focus on the theme 'Practical Approaches,' chaired by Choi Hyung-jun, a professor at Dankook University. Yoon Young-gil, a professor at Korea National Sport University, will address the reality of football player slumps, and Kim Ju-pyo, a coach at the Korea Football Association, will introduce integrated methods for game understanding standards and physical training for player development. Additionally, Jang Je-hee, an analyst at the Watford FC Academy, will present a monitoring approach by age group (U9 to U21), and Woo Won-jae, a coach at Football A U-18, will analyze the sprint patterns and movements of forwards based on situational contexts.
Hwang Bo-gwan, president of the Korea Football Science Association, said, 'This conference will serve as an opportunity to elevate the performance of Korean football by integrating scientific data and field experiences,' and noted, 'By bringing together domestic and international experts for active knowledge exchange and discussion, we will seek a new direction for the development of Korean football.'
