Tottenham's new head coach Thomas Frank (52) expressed his curiosity about the Korean dish kimchi.
On the 19th (Korean time), Frank had a Q&A session with many fans via the official Tottenham channel. One of the questions included whether he likes kimchi.
The Denmark-born Frank confessed, "To be precise, I have heard of kimchi, but I have not eaten it," adding, "If I get to Korea, I really want to try it. I am looking forward to it."
Frank's remarks have attracted attention, coinciding with his upcoming visit to Korea this summer and the situation regarding Son Heung-min (33). Tottenham is scheduled to play a friendly match against Arsenal in Hong Kong on July 31 and will participate in the Coupang Play Series against Newcastle United in Seoul on August 3.
This marks Tottenham's third visit to Korea, having visited in 2022 and 2024. It is fitting for a club that has an Asian superstar and symbolic player like Son Heung-min.
Naturally, Son Heung-min's situation is closely tied to this consolidation. The British 'BBC' reported on the 18th, "With only one year left on his contract, Son's future remains uncertain. Middle Eastern clubs are looking to take advantage of this opportunity, and his transfer status may be decided after the Asia tour."
It is reported that Frank did not mention team captain Son Heung-min in his first official interview with the club, further fueling transfer rumors surrounding Son.
Since joining Tottenham in 2015, Son has recorded 454 matches, 173 goals, and 101 assists over 10 years. He notably led the team to victory in the UEFA Europa League last season, bringing home a trophy for the first time in 17 years, making him a significant figure.
According to the BBC, "The preseason tour is an event that brings enormous revenue to the club. Son's absence could lead to friction with the organizers," and noted, "Tottenham has already confirmed that Son will participate in the tour. Any club wishing to sign him must make a larger offer than the stipulated amount."
According to local British media, there have been no official transfer offers for Son yet. At the same time, the new plans of head coach Frank could be a crucial variable that determines Son's fate. For now, Tottenham is planning to restructure the squad with a younger attacking formation, having fully acquired Mathys Tel.
It remains to be seen whether Frank's curiosity about kimchi will create an opportunity to extend his association with Son Heung-min ahead of his visit to Korea. This Asia tour seems to carry more significance than just a friendly match.
