Sean Wright-Phillips (44) recommended a transfer to Tottenham Hotspur for Eberechi Eze (27, Crystal Palace).
Global football media outlet Goal.com reported on the 18th (Korea time) that "Former England international winger Sean Wright-Phillips advised Crystal Palace midfielder Eberechi Eze to move to Tottenham this summer and become Son Heung-min's successor."
Eze has established himself as an attacking midfielder since joining Crystal Palace, developing his vision and defensive contributions. His strengths include excellent ball control and technique, along with quick and agile physical abilities that allow him to dribble and evade pressure both centrally and on the wings.
He creates chances with low through balls and sharp kicks, also serving as a set-piece taker, showcasing his ability to resolve matches. With active movements off the ball, he creates space and scoring opportunities, and demonstrates diligent pressing in defense. While his defensive resilience and aerial duels may be somewhat lacking, he is currently regarded as a top-level English technician in the Premier League.
Goal.com noted, "Wright-Phillips, who has played for Manchester City and the England national team, encouraged Eze, who has recently emerged as one of the Premier League's best playmakers, to take on a new challenge at Tottenham, where the possibility of Son Heung-min's transfer has been raised." It added, "Eze has rapidly developed since his move to Selhurst Park (Crystal Palace's home ground), establishing himself as one of the most exciting creative midfielders in the Premier League. He recently scored the winning goal in the FA Cup final and has attracted ongoing interest from major clubs in England, particularly Tottenham."
The outlet reported, "Wright-Phillips shared his thoughts in an interview with 'Prime Casino', stating, 'Eze is a really great player. He weaves through games effortlessly, as if he's only shifting through second and third gears.'"
He continued, "He gives the impression that he has still more to show. Frankly, I don’t think the current Manchester United is the right team for him. If Son Heung-min were to leave Tottenham, I believed Eze would be a target for Tottenham. So, I am watching how that situation unfolds now."
However, he noted, "As far as I know, Tottenham has prioritized Bryan Mbeumo (Brentford) more highly. In that respect, they may not target Eze." He added, "But from Crystal Palace's perspective, if Eze and Marc Guéhi both qualify for European competition, there would be no need to leave the team. They could still grow sufficiently while staying at Selhurst Park for at least another year."
Goal.com emphasized, "Eze is also mentioned as an alternative resource for Brentford's Mbeumo due to Manchester United's lack of attacking options. Meanwhile, Tottenham is still weighing whether to send Son Heung-min in the summer transfer market, with the possibility that interest from the Saudi Pro League could lead to a realistic proposal."
It continued, "Crystal Palace is currently waiting for the qualification to participate in European competitions. However, if he transfers to Tottenham, he would be guaranteed UEFA Champions League participation for at least a year, making it a very attractive proposal for Eze."
