Will the era of German national midfielder Florian Wirtz (22, Bayer Leverkusen) begin? A move to Liverpool is imminent.
Florian Plettenberg, a reporter for Germany's Sky Sports, noted on the 19th (Korea time) on his social media (SNS) that "today is a huge day for Wirtz and Liverpool," claiming that Wirtz is scheduled to arrive in Liverpool to undergo the first part of the medical test.
It is expected that, if possible, the first medical test will be completed today, and the final medical test will be wrapped up by Friday. Ultimately, the official announcement is expected to come after the final medical test is conducted.
European football transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano also emphasized on SNS that a verbal agreement has been reached between Wirtz and Liverpool, stating that the contract will be finalized "within 48 hours."
According to local media, Wirtz will sign a contract with Liverpool until 2030. His salary is reported to be a maximum of 20 million euros (approximately 31.6 billion won) before taxes, including bonuses. The transfer fee is expected to reach up to 150 million euros (approximately 2.371 trillion won), including various options.
Wirtz, who led Bayer Leverkusen to an unbeaten Bundesliga championship in the 2023-2024 season, is regarded as an option capable of playing not only as a midfielder but also across the second line. Despite Bayern Munich's interest, Wirtz did not budge but responded to Liverpool's call.
With Wirtz joining Liverpool, the team, led by coach Arne Slot, is expected to receive a more positive assessment regarding its goal of becoming Premier League champions for a second consecutive season.
Wirtz, who recorded 16 goals and 15 assists (10 goals and 13 assists in 31 league games) in 45 matches during the 2024-2025 season, is expected to be at the core of coach Slot's key project.
