Mehdi Taremi (33, Inter Milan) reported news of his survival amid the airstrikes in Iran. He reassured fans.
Taremi, who hails from Iran, left a message saying, "Leave Iran alone" on his Instagram story on the 17th (Korean time).
Taremi recently visited his home country with his family but became stranded at Tehran Airport due to the impact of Israeli airstrikes. As a result, he will not be able to participate in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, where he was scheduled to play for Inter Milan.
Due to the airstrikes, Iran's airspace has been completely closed, and Taremi became isolated, losing contact with his club. Italian media outlet "Foot Mercato" reported, "The bombardment has caused significant damage to civilian areas, and Inter Milan has lost contact with Taremi," prompting concerns among fans.
Fortunately, Taremi announced his survival through social media. While his exact situation is not yet known, he has left a message wishing for the safety of his country, suggesting that he is in a state to communicate.
Taremi is reported to have moved to a safe area.
Born in 1992, Taremi is one of the leading strikers in Asia. Having made his mark in the European stage since 2020 with FC Porto, he became the top assist provider in the Primeira Liga during the 2020-2021 season and topped the scoring chart in the 2022-2023 season, setting a record as the first Asian player to achieve this.
He has scored 55 goals in 94 A-matches for the Iranian national team, serving as a key attacking player.
He joined Inter Milan last summer as a free agent.
After playing in the third round of the Asian qualifiers for the 2026 North and Central American World Cup, Taremi recently showcased his abilities by scoring one goal and providing one assist against North Korea. He then headed to Iran to spend time with his family but became unable to depart due to the disruption of flights caused by the military conflict between Iran and Israel.
Inter Milan is working with Iranian authorities to confirm his safety and explore options for his departure.
