Son Heung-min (33, Tottenham Hotspur) seems to have received attention from his 'former workplace,' Bayer Leverkusen.

The British media outlet TalkSPORT reported on the 18th (Korea time) that "Saudi Arabian clubs have shown consistent interest in acquiring Son Heung-min. Three clubs, including Al Ahli, Al Nassr, and Al Qadisiyah, are monitoring him. Major League Soccer (MLS) in the United States and Turkish clubs are also keeping an eye on Son Heung-min," adding that "Bayer Leverkusen is also known to have discussed Son Heung-min's return internally in May. However, there is still no official offer."

Son Heung-min is under contract with Tottenham until the summer of 2026. This summer is analyzed as the right time for a transfer, as it represents the last opportunity to receive an appropriate transfer fee.

Saudi teams are the most proactive in acquiring Son Heung-min. TalkSPORT noted that "they are prepared to pay about €40 million (approximately 63.3 billion won) as a transfer fee" and that "they are expected to propose a contract to Son Heung-min worth €30 million (approximately 47.4 billion won) annually. They are likely also expecting to generate revenue through broadcasting rights agreements with Korean broadcasters."

It draws attention that Bayer Leverkusen, where he played in the past, has been mentioned as a team wanting to acquire Son Heung-min. He played at Bayer Leverkusen from 2013 to 2015, recording 29 goals in 87 matches. He contributed to the team's Champions League qualification by scoring 10 goals in the 2013-2014 season. In the 2014-2015 season, he became the top scorer of the team with 17 goals in official matches. He especially proved his presence by scoring multiple goals against Bayern Munich.

During his time at Bayer Leverkusen, Son Heung-min drew attention for his speed and ability to shoot with both feet. He also made an impact in European competitions, attracting Tottenham's interest, leading to a successful transfer in 2015.

However, it appears there are no official offers for Son Heung-min yet. TalkSPORT explained that "so far, Tottenham has not received any official proposals for Son Heung-min from Saudi Arabia or other clubs. Even if a high offer comes in, Tottenham will not force his transfer. The final decision rests with Son Heung-min himself."

The transfer discussions are likely to be postponed for the time being.

Tottenham will play against Newcastle in the '2025 Coupang Play Series' at Seoul World Cup Stadium on Aug. 3. This match, dubbed the 'Champion Match,' is drawing significant attention as it features the Europa League champions and the Carabao Cup champions. The BBC reported on the 17th that "Son Heung-min's future will be decided after Tottenham's Asian tour ends."
