The Korea Mountain Rescue Association announced that it successfully held the '2025 Joint Civil and Government Mountain Rescue Competition' from the 14th to the 15th at Halmaewoo in Gochang-gun, Jeollabuk-do.
This competition was hosted by the Korea Forest Service and organized by the Korea Mountain Rescue Association and the Korea Mountain and Trekking Support Center, with sponsorship from the Korea Mountaineering Federation, the Jeollabuk-do Special Self-Governing Province, and Gochang-gun.
The '2025 Joint Civil and Government Mountain Rescue Competition' was a contest aimed at improving emergency responses to various mountain safety accidents, featuring coordinated rescue operations from ground and air. This year marked the 14th iteration of the competition, which aimed to enhance public awareness of safety, improve the skills of mountain rescue personnel, and foster交流.
The opening ceremony began on the 14th, and a helicopter rescue demonstration based on actual mountain accident cases was prepared at Halmaewoo by the Forest Service's aviation headquarters, but it was regrettably canceled due to adverse weather conditions.
Despite the rain, starting with the opening ceremony, mountain rescue teams from 17 cities and provinces nationwide, organized by the Korea Mountain Rescue Association, composed the assessment categories based on types of mountain accidents, including rock climbing, hauling, ascending, high-lining, first aid, search and stretcher transport, and ensured safety by deploying judges for each category along with safety controllers and personnel.
This mountain rescue competition, attended by over 400 mountain rescue personnel from across the country, was the largest of its kind in Korea and hosted to build the capacity to respond more rapidly to the increasing number of mountain accidents through civil and government joint rescue competitions on ground and air.
As for the results of the competition, the Grand Prize, awarded by the Minister of the Korea Forest Service, was won by the Gyeongsangbuk-do Federation Mountain Rescue Team. The Excellence Award was received by the Jeollabuk-do Federation Mountain Rescue Team (Chairman of the Korea Mountain and Trekking Support Center Award) and the Incheon Federation Mountain Rescue Team (Korea Mountain Rescue Association President Award), while the Encouragement Award was given to the Busan Federation Mountain Rescue Team (Aviation Headquarters Chief Award) and the Jeju Federation Mountain Rescue Team (Korea Mountaineering Federation President Award).
Meanwhile, on the last day of the competition, the 15th (Sunday), the mountain rescue personnel conducted a safety hiking and environmental cleanup campaign along the main trails of Seonunsan and around Halmaewoo.
