The resurgence of the Kiwoom Heroes in professional baseball did not last long. After a four-game winning streak, they fell into a five-game losing streak, quickly accumulating 50 losses.

Kiwoom lost 2-3 against Doosan on the 15th at Jamsil. It was a game where the concentration of the veterans significantly declined.

Rookie starting pitcher Jung Hyun-woo did well, holding off the opposition scoreless until the third inning, but in the fourth, Oh Myung-jin's hit hit the glove of first baseman Choi Joo-hwan and bounced to second base, while second baseman Jeon Tae-hyun also allowed the deflected hit to pass behind him. Jung Hyun-woo, after allowing the first run to Kim Jae-hwan's timely hit with a runner on third base and two outs, induced a ground ball from Kim Ki-yeon. However, third baseman Song Seong-moon, attempting a backhand catch, could not hold on to it, resulting in an error and an additional run allowed.

Ultimately, before the fifth inning, Kiwoom manager Hong Won-ki replaced first baseman Choi Joo-hwan and third baseman Song Seong-moon with Im Ji-yeol and Oh Seon-jin, respectively. Hoping to change the atmosphere with this accountability move, Jung Hyun-woo then allowed a hit to Jeong Soo-bin and committed a bad throw while attempting to pick off at first base, allowing a runner to reach second base. Afterward, with one out and a runner on third base, a home play attempt on Oh Myung-jin's grounder to second base allowed another run to score. In the sixth, they pursued with a two-run homer by Im Ji-yeol but could not overcome the one-run deficit.

After losing both games against Doosan, including the game the previous day (14th), Kiwoom, now in last place with a five-game losing streak, stands at 20 wins, 50 losses, and 2 ties (winning percentage of .286), falling significantly behind Doosan in 9th place (27 wins, 39 losses, and 3 ties, with a winning percentage of .409) by 9 games.

Starting from the game against Lotte on the 4th and continuing through the game against LG on the 7th, Kiwoom enjoyed a season-high four-game winning streak and recovered their winning percentage to the .300 range, but after that, they fell back into a quagmire with a five-game losing streak, except for one tie in six games. Their winning percentage dropped back down to the .200 range, marking their 50th loss after 72 games into the season. At this midpoint of the season, they are on a pace for 100 losses.

This marks the seventh fewest games to reach 50 losses in history. Sammi reached this milestone in 62 games in 1982, Hanwha in 67 games in 2020, Binggrae in 68 games in 1986, KT in 69 games in 2015, and SSANGBANGWOOL and Lotte in 70 games in 1999 and 2002, respectively. Hanwha, who started the season with a record 13-game losing streak in 2013, also recorded 50 losses after 72 games this year, just like Kiwoom.

Sammi was the weakest team in KBO League history, recording a winning percentage of .188. In their first year in the top league, Binggrae in 1986 and KT in 2015 were expansion teams. SSANGBANGWOOL in 1999 was a team on the brink of dissolution, while Hanwha in 2020 set a record for the most consecutive losses in a single season with 18 games tied with Sammi in 1982. Lotte in 2002 was in the darkest period in the club's history.

Kiwoom's performance this season is in such bad shape that it can be compared with historically weak teams. No matter how much it is a rebuilding season, I did not expect it to be this bad. The growth of young players is slow, and the veterans also appear to be increasingly struggling.

The performance of foreign players is also lacking. The ambitious system of two foreign hitters has failed, and there were hopes to stabilize the mound by acquiring pitcher Raul Alcantara, but the existing foreign pitcher Kenny Rosenberg received a 6-week rehabilitation diagnosis due to a hip injury.

They temporarily acquired left-handed pitcher Lachlan Wells from Australia as a substitute due to injuries and he is expected to debut this weekend, but it remains uncertain how well he will perform. Stone Garrett, who joined as a temporary substitute for outfielder Ruben Cardenas, who is out with an elbow injury, has recorded a batting average of .083 (1 hit in 12 at-bats), 2 RBIs, 1 walk, and 3 strikeouts in his first three games.
