Mathis Tell (20, Tottenham) is set to make a permanent transfer to Tottenham Hotspur from Bayern Munich.
The Athletic reported on the 15th, "Mathis Tell is expected to make a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich to Tottenham Hotspur."
Tell is a versatile forward with fast speed and two-footed shooting ability, and despite his young age, he has proven his potential on the first-team stage. However, he lacks physicality as a striker, and as a winger, he has weaknesses in maintaining speed and dribbling ability under ball situations.
While his ability to penetrate space and break through is excellent, he needs improvement in defensive involvement, linking play, and passing judgement in terms of tactical completeness. Overall, he is a player with very high growth potential, and through position specialization and addressing weaknesses, he has the resources to compete for a starting position. In the long term, he is also being mentioned as a replacement for Son Heung-min.
The Athletic noted, "Tell, who is also active in the France U-21 national team, spent the second half of the 2024-2025 season on loan at Tottenham. Although this loan agreement included a permanent transfer option of €55 million (approximately 86.9 billion won), this amount has now been renegotiated, and Tottenham is pursuing a full transfer under conditions that include an initial €35 million (approximately 55.3 billion won) and potentially up to €10 million (approximately 15.8 billion won) in bonuses.
Tell has played 19 matches for Tottenham, scoring 3 goals. He contributed to the club's trophy acquisition after 17 years by being a member of the Europa League winning team and helped secure entry to the Champions League next season.
The media reported, "Former manager Ange Postecoglou has insisted since Tell joined in February that he would make a permanent transfer." In fact, he said, "Tell will be a Tottenham player. I didn't bring him in just for six months. Everyone will see that he deserves to be a Tottenham player over the next six months."
Postecoglou was dismissed in early June, and Thomas Frank was appointed as his successor.
Tell transferred from Stade Rennais in France to Bayern Munich in 2022 and played 83 matches in the Bundesliga, recording 16 goals and 7 assists. He became the youngest scorer in club history by scoring in a match against Viktoria Köln in August 2022, his first year with Bayern. The previous record was held by Jamal Musiala.
The media reported, "Manchester United explored the possibility of loaning Tell during the January transfer window, and Chelsea has been showing consistent interest in Tell since before the winter transfer window," thus reiterating Tell's popularity.
