Legendary David Beckham (50) has been awarded a knighthood.

The British royal family announced on the 14th that King Charles III bestowed a knighthood upon David Beckham in celebration of his birthday. Recognized for his contributions to sports and charity, Beckham received a medal that boasts the highest honors in the UK.

As a co-owner of Inter Miami in Major League Soccer, Beckham has served as a UNICEF ambassador since 2005. He will serve as an ambassador for the King’s Foundation charity starting in 2024.

Beckham said, "It was the greatest honor to play for my country, England, during my time as a player. I worked to help communities in need, representing Britain off the field. A childhood dream has come true. I will share this joy with my family."

Beckham played 115 games for the England national team during his active career, serving as captain in 59 of those matches. He received the Order of the British Empire in 2003. He is the only British player to have scored in all three World Cups.

Beckham was first in line for a knighthood in 2011 but was stripped of his eligibility due to involvement in tax evasion allegations. He eventually achieved his dream after clarifying the matter.
