Kevin De Bruyne (33, Belgium) has transferred to Italian Serie A champion Napoli. He is embarking on a new challenge.

Napoli officially announced the signing of De Bruyne through the club's official account on the 12th (Korean time).

Aurelio De Laurentiis, president of Napoli, welcomed him, saying, "Welcome, De Bruyne." The club account also stated, "We are proud to have De Bruyne join our team."

The exact terms of the contract are undisclosed, but local reports indicate that it includes a 2-year contract with an option for 1 extension. The transfer fee is said to be around 10 million euros (approximately 15.7 billion won).

De Bruyne left Germany's Wolfsburg in 2015 to join the English Premier League's Manchester City. Over the next 10 seasons, he became established as one of the world's best midfielders, taking charge of the midfield at Manchester City.

De Bruyne lifted numerous trophies at Manchester City, including 6 Premier League titles, 1 UEFA Champions League title, 2 FA Cups, and 5 EFL Cups. He recorded 108 goals and 177 assists in a total of 422 matches.

He substituted in the 40th minute of the match against Fulham on the 26th of last month and bid farewell to fans. He indicated he would not participate in the Club World Cup, making the match against Fulham his farewell game with Manchester City.

At that time, De Bruyne said, "Manchester City made no offer, and the club made the decision," and added, "It was surprising, but I have to accept it. I still believe I can play at the highest level."

Manchester City announced, "We plan to erect a statue at the Etihad Stadium in honor of De Bruyne, who has dedicated 10 years to the club."

De Bruyne conveyed, "It’s now possible for me to return anytime and see it. I will be here forever." Currently, statues of Vincent Kompany, David Silva, Sergio Agüero, Colin Bell, Mike Summerbee, and Francis Lee are erected at the Manchester City stadium.

De Bruyne decided to part ways with Manchester City last April. There were speculations about a transfer to Chicago Fire in Major League Soccer (MLS), but he rejected offers from several teams. After much consideration, he chose Napoli as his new destination.

Upon arriving in Rome, De Bruyne underwent medical tests at the club-designated hospital. Hundreds of fans gathered to welcome him.

With the addition of De Bruyne, Napoli has bolstered its midfield. He is expected to provide stability to the tactics of Coach Antonio Conte.
