After a prolonged battle, they claimed their second consecutive winning series, but no one could smile. This was because leadoff hitter Jang Du-seong was transported to the hospital after being hit by a pitch during extra innings.

The Lotte Giants of the Korea Professional Baseball (KBO) league won 12-7 against the KT Wiz in the season's 9th match held at Suwon KT Wiz Park on the 12th after a prolonged battle.

Lotte achieved two consecutive victories, maintaining a record of 36 wins, 3 draws, and 29 losses to remain in sole possession of 3rd place.

Starting pitcher Kim Jin-wook was early removed after struggling with 6 runs in 2 innings, but the batting lineup made a comeback, scoring 4 runs in the 3rd inning, 1 run in the 4th inning, and 1 run in the 5th inning to tie the game at 6-6. In the 7th inning, with 2 outs and a runner on second, Jeung Bo-keun hit a one-run single to turn the game around.

In the bottom of the 9th, closer Kim Won-jung allowed a tying hit to substitute Lee Ho-yeon, leading to extra innings. In the 10th inning, with 1 out, Jang Du-seong drew a walk and advanced to second base due to a pickoff error. However, he was hit in the side by a pickoff throw and vomited blood, getting transported to a nearby hospital. Subsequently, Go Seung-min and Reyes loaded the bases with consecutive walks, and Jeon Jun-woo broke the 7-7 tie with a bases-loaded walk.

Lotte faced a situation of 2 outs and bases loaded when Kim Min-sung struck out. Following him, Jeon Min-jae also hit an infield pop-up, which seemed to end the inning, but catcher Jang Seong-woo made a surprising error by missing the catch. In the meantime, Go Seung-min and Reyes each crossed home plate. Then, Son Ho-young hit a one-run single to left field, widening the gap, and Kim Dong-hyeok's perfect one-run bunting hit nailed down the victory.

However, Lotte could not enjoy the joy of victory after the game. This was because Jang Du-seong, who went 3-for-5 with 3 RBIs, 1 walk, and 1 run scored, sustained an unexpected injury that required his transport.

The highlight of five hits, Son Ho-young, expressed concern to reporters after the game, stating, “While I think winning is important, I genuinely hope nothing serious happened to (Jang) Du-seong. He seemed to have been hit in a very painful area, so I’m quite worried. The good things I did seem to vanish, and that’s all I can think about. After winning, the atmosphere is so subdued; it’s the first time I've experienced this.”

He added, “When a pitch is thrown at you, there’s an instinct to defend, but with a pickoff throw, you don’t think about that at all, so it hurts even more,” expressing his concern for Jang Du-seong's health.

A Lotte official at the scene stated, “Jang Du-seong was hit by a pickoff throw in the side and was moved to a nearby Hwahang Hospital. Whether the bleeding from his mouth was due to the side bruise will be checked through hospital examination. We will inform as soon as the examination results are available.”

Meanwhile, Lotte will travel to Incheon on the 13th to play a weekend three-game series against the SSG Landers. The matchup between Lee Min-seok (Lotte) and Drew Anderson (SSG) is on the first day.
