KT Wiz manager Lee Kang-chul wished for a speedy recovery for Jang Du-seong (Lotte outfielder), who suffered a lung contusion during the match against the Lotte Giants on the 12th.
Jang Du-seong started as the No. 1 center fielder in the 9th match of the season against KT at Suwon KT Wiz Park on the 12th, and he was transported by ambulance after sustaining an injury in the top of the 10th inning.
In the top of the 10th inning, tied 7-7 with one out, Jang Du-seong drew a walk against KT's reliever Park Young-hyun. Afterward, while Go Seung-min was at bat, he was hit hard in the left side of his body by a pick-off attempt from Park Young-hyun at first base.
Despite the pain, Jang Du-seong saw the ball slip away and sprinted to second base, but after arriving, he lay on the ground, vomiting blood and expressing significant discomfort. Fortunately, Jang Du-seong managed to lift himself up but was transported to the hospital via ambulance.
Ahead of the match against the Daegu Samsung Lions on the 13th, manager Lee Kang-chul expressed regret over Jang Du-seong's unexpected injury, saying, "It was an incident that happened during the game, and it was not intentional, but nonetheless, I feel genuinely sorry that Jang Du-seong got injured. I hope it’s not a serious injury. The head coach also contacted to convey his apologies."
According to KT officials, Kim Tae-hyoung, KT's head coach, called Lotte's head coach Jo Won-woo after the game on the 12th, saying, "It was an incident that happened during the game, but I’m sorry that the player got injured. I hope it’s not a serious injury. Please convey my message to manager Kim Tae-hyoung as well." Park Young-hyun also directly called Jang Du-seong to express his apologies.
Meanwhile, a Lotte official stated regarding Jang Du-seong's current condition, "Jang Du-seong is hospitalized at a certain hospital in Suwon and has received a recommendation that it would be fine for him to be discharged as there is no longer any visible bleeding. He is likely to move to his home in Cheonan to rest," adding that "he will undergo further examination at Samsung Seoul Hospital on the 16th."
