Various prospects are emerging for Thomas Frank, the new Tottenham Hotspur manager.
Tottenham announced on the 13th (Korea time) through the club's official channel that "they have signed a three-year contract with manager Frank until June 2028."
Joining Frank are Justin Cochrane, the chief coach from Brentford, Chris Haslam, the coach, Joe Newton, the analyst, and Andreas Georgsson, the coach.
Tottenham announced Frank's appointment just seven days after the dismissal of manager Ange Postecoglou.
Postecoglou led Tottenham to victory in the UEFA Europa League (UEL) in the 2024-2025 season, bringing a trophy to Tottenham for the first time in 17 years. However, the Premier League performance was dismal, recording a club record 22 losses. They finished in 17th place, the lowest in the league. Ultimately, the Tottenham leadership made the decisive decision to part ways.
Frank began his coaching career in 2008 with the Denmark national youth teams. He then took the helm at Brøndby in 2013 and gained recognition for his leadership.
He became the chief coach of Brentford in 2016 and was promoted to head coach in 2018. He led Brentford for about seven years, achieving promotion to the Premier League in the 2020-2021 season, which is considered one of his greatest achievements.
Frank is known as a coach who employs various tactics and training systems. He is praised for his ability to manage games with tailored tactics suited to opposing teams. His talent for youth development and player scouting is also highly regarded.
Under Frank's leadership, Brentford consistently achieved results in the Premier League, finishing 13th in 2022, 9th in 2023, 16th in 2024, and closing the previous season in 10th place.
British outlet Football Insider reported that "Tottenham paid £10 million (approximately 18.4 billion won) as a release clause for manager Frank from Brentford."
The BBC noted, "Manager Frank has gained a reputation in the football world for his ability to recognize and solve problems. Now, he will take charge of Tottenham, a team that resembles an endlessly tangled puzzle." They added, "Warm and charismatic, he leaves the structurally sound Brentford to take over the chaotic and difficult-to-manage Tottenham. Chairman Daniel Levy has consistently dismissed managers who have not secured trophies, and he has now let go of a manager who brought home a trophy. Thus, Frank enters this complex Tottenham." It is expected that he will face a challenging journey ahead.
Furthermore, the BBC commented, "The move to Tottenham is a significant risk for Frank. He is up against Chairman Levy, and the team is Tottenham," while adding, "However, he has considerable confidence. His impressive achievements at Brentford sufficiently support this level of 'promotion' (to Tottenham)."
Frank has the mission to transform Tottenham back into a top team in the Premier League.
Jan Molby, a former Liverpool midfielder and prominent Premier League commentator in Denmark, stated about Frank, "His ability to identify issues and solve them is a significant strength. There have been assessments of crises every year, but even without Tony, he managed the team well with new attacking combinations at Brentford." He added, "He can succeed at Tottenham."
Molby believes that Frank's personality and human approach will help establish early relationships with players who were shocked by the dismissal of Postecoglou.
He said, "Even if there are doubts about Frank, the players will like him. His clear and honest character and communication style will earn the players' trust."
Additionally, Molby emphasized, "Usually, a new manager comes in after the previous one has completely collapsed, but this time it's different. There were still many who supported Postecoglou at Tottenham," and noted, "Frank needs to show results quickly from the start."
