Tottenham has chosen Thomas Frank (52), the Brentford manager, as their new head coach.
Tottenham announced on the 13th (Korea time) through the club's official channel that "they have signed a three-year contract with Coach Frank until June 2028."
Along with Coach Frank, Justin Cochrane, the chief coach, Chris Haslam, the coach, Joe Newton, the analyst, and Andreas Georgsson, the coach who were with Brentford also join Tottenham.
The announcement of Coach Frank's appointment came 7 days after the dismissal of Coach Ange Postecoglou.
Coach Postecoglou led Tottenham to victory in the UEFA Europa League (UEL) for the 2024-2025 season, bringing the club a trophy after 17 years. However, the performance in the Premier League was dismal, recording the most losses in the club's history with 22 defeats and finishing at the lowest position since the inception of the English Premier League (EPL) at 17th place. The Tottenham management ultimately made the firm decision to dismiss him.
Coach Frank built his career as a coach in the Danish age-specific national teams in 2008. He then gained recognition as a leader when he took command of Brøndby in 2013.
He joined Brentford as the chief coach in 2016 and was promoted to head coach in 2018. He has been leading Brentford for about 7 years, achieving the remarkable feat of promoting the team to the Premier League in the 2020-2021 season, which is considered one of his major accomplishments.
Coach Frank is regarded as a manager who employs various tactics and training systems. He is noted for his ability to manage games through tailored strategies adapted to opposing teams. His youth development and talent discovery skills are also highly praised.
The Brentford team led by Coach Frank has consistently performed in the Premier League, finishing 13th in 2022, 9th in 2023, 16th in 2024, and completing last season in 10th place.
The British outlet 'Football Insider' reported that "Tottenham paid £10 million (approximately 18.4 billion won) as a release clause for Coach Frank to Brentford."
The new coaching system of Tottenham may also affect Son Heung-min's future. If Coach Frank wishes to keep 'Captain' Son Heung-min, the club is expected to follow his intentions.
Son Heung-min is currently receiving love calls from teams in the Saudi Arabian league. Tottenham has also stated that they would consider selling him if a 'huge offer' comes in.
The British 'Mirror' excluded Son Heung-min from the predicted best eleven for Tottenham next season. In contrast, 'Give Me Sport' expects that Son Heung-min will still play as a left winger in the new season.
