The Korea Sepaktakraw Association announced that it will host the 26th national men and women's sepaktakraw championships from June 18 to 22 at the Cheorwon Indoor Gymnasium in Cheorwon County, Gangwon Province.
This tournament is the third national-level sepaktakraw competition held this year, with approximately 300 athletes from 40 teams across the country participating to compete by division. In particular, this tournament will also serve as the second national team selection match for the 2025 World Championships to be held in Thailand in July, intensifying the competition among athletes aspiring to represent the nation.
Kim Young-jin, president of the Korea Sepaktakraw Association, said, "I hope this tournament, where national division athletes gather to showcase their skills, will expand the base of sepaktakraw even further," and noted, "Especially since the national team selection match for the World Championships to be held in Thailand in July will be held concurrently, the motivation for athletes will be even greater."
Cheorwon County, the main venue for this tournament, also promised full cooperation. Lee Hyun-jong, the Cheorwon County mayor, expressed, "I am glad to host a high-level national sepaktakraw tournament in Cheorwon," adding, "We will enhance Cheorwon's image as a sports city that integrates with nature and provide the visiting teams with the best tournament environment."
The Korea Sepaktakraw Association will attempt to live broadcast the finals on June 22 via the KBS N SPORTS channel, the first of its kind for a domestic tournament. Through this event, it aims to further stimulate national interest and participation in sepaktakraw and accelerate the discovery of next-generation representative athletes.
